Hello sages...

I want to install cruise in one of my cars.. I have all the parts to do the install, but I want to know if ma mopar evr put cruise in a car with a stick?

all the ones I have evr seen and noticed are cruise with automatics.

can a Cruise unit be safely installed In a stick car?

if so are there any additional considerations than in an auto car?

thanks,

Greg

Engine runaway when the clutch is disengaged would be one worry. I would recommend installing some kind of interrupt switch on the clutch, but this would most likely require resetting the cruise every time you shifted.

You could have a rev limiter on the ignition to avoid a complete runaway.........

I have aftermarket cruise control on my Toyota PU. 5 speed stick, and have installed many over the years. All of the ones I have installed, use a clutch safety switch. They also had circitry in the module that sences, ign pulses, and will disengage the cruise, if the RPM increases at too fast a rate.

I am adding cruse control to the 83 D-150,, a833...

did a some internet searches on forums patronized by car audio installers, asked them what system they prefer.

The cruse controls from Rostra Precision got a lot of recommendations. And that is what I went with.

http://www.rostra.com/universal-afterma ... rostra.php

The kits are available on E bay,,but one of the installers recommended buying the kit direct from Brandon Distributing, (877-402-3944) as they have a tech line if there are questions on the install. I did that also.

Concerning using the Rostra cruise control with a manual tranny,, there are two options to control engine over speed if the cruse is active and one shifts into neutral. The kit has an option for a clutch safety switch, that will shut off the cruse if the clutch is engaged or built into the kit is a wire that T's into the tachometer feed wire from the coil. It is suppost to sense if engine RPM's increase rapidly and disengage the unit. I wired in the tach feed line.

I have the kit installed, the instructions are very detailed, actually pretty good, There is a diagnoistic test,, that I have ran,, says everything is hooked up correctly ,, as I make progress on the D-150, I will get to try it..

My '93 Volvo 850 5-speed has cruise control. It uses a small motor to pull a vacuum to hold the speed. Pushing either the brake or the clutch pedal disengages the cruise control.
