but the big hole is threaded so it should work.
Just be sure to clean out the hole in the crank really well. All of the slants that I've ever worked on had a ton of dirt packed in there.

I will clean out that hole thoroughly, thanks.
Thanks for all the warm regards.
Didn't do the valves. I am lazy. Plus I have 2 Jeeps, another truck and a motorcycle to work on. I guess some pics are in order soon.

You will fit right in here.

We all seem to have way more projects than time/money/ambition to finish them all.

I'm surprised no one has asked... where are the pics of your truck?

I'm having fun with my 85 D100 /6 4spd :) Good to have more truck members. That means even more folks to hit up when I get stuck.

Some pics the day I bought her. I love my truck. Not sure what happened to the quad headlamps or underbody spare tire carrier. I've since replaced the odd Caddy hubcap with a stocker.

OK, now you have your photobucket account. Look at the right of the PB screen, you will see "Links to share this photo". The bottom link next to the img, click on that. The box should go yellow and say copied. Now come back over here to your post where your typing your message. On a new line, right click and select "paste" (or you can use ctrl V). The PB link should paste in and when you submit your post the pic will be there!

On the headlamp thing, just a thought, others will know for certain.
Is that maybe a "delete" code? The person who ordered the truck did NOT want the quad headlamps?

Man! I like the two tone. Mine is plane boring primer gray, which needs to be re-done in the near future anyway. I might steal the two-tone scheme from yours. I love the blue.

Did the valve adjustment...running and warm according to SlantSixDan's writeup. Took about 6 hours over both weekend days. Did it on Sat and had to redo it on Sun. But that included cleanup on a wasted 33 year old valve cover gasket. I kept checking the clearance over and over again and never really liked the 'feel'. I've done my fair share of valve adjusting and I felt pretty stupid using this method. Next time I'll do the static method using a dummy dist cap and see how that goes. I guess valve adjustment is a touchy subject here so please don't take any offense at my opinion.

Didn't loose much oil tho. And it's good beer drinking time watching the six banger run.

One thing I noticed is she idles perfectly without the dist vacuum advance disconnected. After connecting it, there seems to be a slight intermittent miss.

Nice looking truck. :D

I always do valves dead cold, engine off. I open lash up .001" and be done.

We're not working on a Ferrari motor, just a Slant.

Thanks, got the stereo installed too. Pics to come.

So you set them .011" and .021 cold then? I played around with the adjustments so much my gut is sore from leaning on the fenders. :) Without getting the feel I am used to, the best way I came up with was to loosen each valve until it clacked, then tighten until quiet. Then check with the feeler gauge to make sure it wasn't too tight. And I made sure I ended up tightening each one. Took forever, but my inexperience was the cause I guess.

Yes, .011" and .021".

If you peruse the forum you'll see that the hot/cold valve adjustment is an ongoing argument.
