I want to run forged pistons
the wiseco long rods are 10.5 comp
Options
#1 thick like .125 1/8inch or more copper hard gaskets
mill nothing off head or block and clean chamber to get it to 8.0 comp

#2 custom pistons at $750 and save $$ on head gasket if I ever go non boosted
I could then deck block more and shave head to raise comp yet have 7.5 comp now

Thanks all as I have read hundreds of posts and just have a few questions

To me, buying custom pistons and still have a huge deck clearance is sort of an oxymoron. Get your pistons made with a near zero deck, but adjust the compression you want with a dish. Then later if you want to run non-boosted, you will only have to cut the head to get a compression gain, and not have to tear down the shortblock to mill both the block and head. You will save a ton of money on the tail end of this scenario by stepping up and getting the pistons made this way on the front end of your build.

So like .040 head gasket and a -45cc dish piston should be about 7.0 compression

You don't need that large of a dish, just something to get you in the 8-1/2 compression range.

Option 3

Arp rod bolts stock rods new old set of trw forged pistons
Clean cylnder head chamber and a .045 head gasket ..
This should be 8.0 compression

Can this set up rev to 5500 - 6000 and survive
with 5 to 6 psi of boost

Cam and exhst and carb would be correct just asking about engine
Thanks all

Option 3 should work fine. I have a stock rebuild with 170k miles running 6.5 or 9.5 psi boost (pull cap on wastegate) and revving to 5600 that is surviving just fine. Stock-type cast 0.030"-over Silvolite pistons from 1989 rebuild. Stock replacement rod bolts and had rods resized. Nothing else fancy. Best time 14.27 @99.91 MPH in 3500 lb racewt car with almost stock 2100 stall converter. 330 HP at crank by calculators. Should run mid 13s with better converter and tires.

First of all...once you go boost you never go back.

I have the exact #3 option you talk about only my gasket is .046 not .045. Holds up to 33 psi fine. Tons of runs on 27 psi. My new old TRW's weighed in at 462 grams when finished and I shift at 5200 rpm.

I ended up using the K1 rods and a custom flat top forged piston by Wiesco. Originally, I wanted to use a .045" copper head gasket but ended up with a .073" copper head gasket because I had exhaust piston to valve issues. Comp is 7.9:1 or 7.6:1... I can't remember which and don't have my notes in front of me. I used a modern low drag ring and 22psi of boost to date.

I was thinking of running the wiseco piston on a stock 225 rod. compression will be in the 6.9/1 range. I emailed Campbell ent and they contacted wiseco for me I was trying to get a piston without reliefs but they considered it a custom piston so price shot up to $800 usd.
