Sweltering heat struck Champion Raceway just in time for the arrival of the Killer Bees. Linda and I rolled in a bit after 3 PM Friday. The thermometer read 107° at the gate.
Andrew and Jessica rolled in forty five minutes later, and It registered 113°.

We missed seeing PJ's Radiant smile, and hope Edd get's her car together for the upcoming events.
Jessica, Linda, and her other Sister Linda were busy making plans throughout the weekend that the men-folk will be paying heed to. Yes Dear.

Friday Night

We played with the DOT racers, and I got a few T&T's in with Linda on board. With tent pitched, the night life around the VW pit became "Boisterous." Few of the Bees got a good night's sleep.

Saturday was considerably cooler. 98° in the shade. I had forgotten about the thorns in the parking lot, and by morning, both tires on my bicycle were flat. Bruce picked up a patch kit for me while he was in town, though we never got back to the bike.

Andrew and Bruce were kindly volunteered by CJ to rebuild a beat up old picnic table during the heat of the day. Once completed, we hauled it back out to our camping area, and had Tri Tip luncheon that Linda cooked up for us! Tasty!
Jessica provided Chicken Wraps for dinner, with all the fresh fixings!

The staging lanes opened a bit after six Saturday evening. Once Time Trials were out of the way, we got down to business racing. The track started using a new compound, and many complimented Kirk, the new manager of Champion on the consistency of the track. Throughout the weekend the track itself stayed pretty predictable. Most folks liked the right lane. I really couldn't tell much difference.

Medford 2013 SSRN #1.

Round 1
CJ vs Frank, Winner - CJ
Andrew vs Wendy, Winner - Andrew
Mark vs Sergio, Winner - Sergio

Round 2
CJ - Bye
Andrew vs Sergio, Winner - Andrew

Round 3
CJ vs Andrew, Winner - CJ

Sunday dawned cooler, thankfully! 92° was about the peak. The track had biscuits and gravy in the morning, along with coffee and donuts at the beer shack. Lunch vittles were Cheese Steak, sliders, corn dogs, and so forth.

The starting line got up over 145°, and the surface went away. The track officials held a second driver's meeting, and had us move off the center to keep in the sticky stuff. This worked just fine for me.

Medford 2013 SSRN #2

Round 1
CJ vs Wendy, Winner - CJ
Frank vs Sergio, Winner - Sergio
Mark vs Andrew, Winner - Andrew

Round 2
CJ - Bye
Sergio vs Andrew, Winner - Sergio

Round 3
CJ vs Sergio, Winner - Sergio

We went into time trials, and saw some interesting changes in the air. Most cars slowed down. In the final, the trend reversed itself, and Sergio, a true veteran pounced on me! Experience wins over beauty once again!

A big Congratulations to Frank Wright for his Sportsman win Sunday! He took a big chunk out of the Medford Team's double points event, and carried away the trophy and a few bucks! :D

Thanks to Mark Murray for coming through with a spare fan belt when I shredded the one in the Hooptie on second time trial Saturday!
Bruce provided a new one, that went with Mark for his long drive home.

We had a wonderful weekend! Thanks to all the Bees for making the event a big success! :D :D :D

Did you notice how CJ's reports typically focus around the food...? :P

Congrats on the wins!

I did notice that. CJ has his life priorities straight - good food, fun cars, hangs with his loving wife a lot (not necessarily in that order of importance).

Thanks Linda & CJ for the great BBQ tri-tip. We had a good time, chasing dial-ins and de-crudding the carb flooding needle/seat.

Shredded a trailer tire 100 miles south of Medford. Never felt anything in the 1Ton Dually. A car came alongside, rolled down their window and told us about the rubber trail we were leaving on I-5. Frank & Linda Wright spotted us on the roadside, Frank had a bigger floor jack that lifted the trailer with car inside and we were on the road again in 30 minutes. Thanks Frank.

Rolled into Paradise at 10PM.

Bruce & Wendy

What are you cooking up for us at Redding PJ? :D I'm always hungry!

If things work out right, we may make it down to Redding. We have to be careful with Linda's allergies though. Something out there wipes her out for days.

When I'm in town tomorrow, I'll pick up a bunch of fan belts. One for the Hooptie, one for the tool box, and one for Bruce! Thank you for providing the new one Mr. Pine. I felt better with Mark taking that one with him. Odds were against the Hooptie throwing one on the way home riding on the trailer!

We need to remember a hole saw next time so we can mount a shade umbrella in the middle of our picnic table! :D
