I noticed some columns have 3 nuts (or was it 2 nuts and 1 screw?) that hold it to the dashboard frame, and some have only 2. Is this the difference between manual and power columns or is it just a difference of years or... ?

I know on the later (wide) a-body it depends on the year, the 1973-1976 columns regardless of shift or power/manual all had 3 bolts at the firewall, by late 1974 they also changed to a different interface at the mounting plate as well. i think my 1967 had the 3 bolts at the plate, but also had 2 smaller bolts where the column sleeve and bearing fit to that plate.

Do you know if the style with 2 bolts to the dash frame change with the type that uses 3? Looking at a 2 bolt column to put in my 3 bolt car - I'd just use the 2 bolt bracket and ignore the third bolt. I've only seem pictures, the bolts look like they are in the same place but no knowing for sure.

My 1973 and 1974 were 3 bolt at the pedal/dash bracket, in 1975-1976 they went with the 2 bolt bracket and they fit back and forth with no problem (in fact i have a 1967 column as a temp steering column in the project 1976 Duster...

The 3rd bolt is just a hanging bracket off the brake pedal frame, you can swap the column brackets or just forget the 3rd bolt and should be good to go.
