I've been having carb problems and I've gone through several carter bbs' s. I found a couple holleys I wouldnt mind trying but I never messed with the slant six holleys.
What will it take to change it over to a holley? I know about fuel line different spot, and I don't see the cage for the linkage rod to attach to..

I have an 65 valiant auto 225 no a/c

Carb #1 said to be nos (I think # 2647)

Carb #1 looks like it was painted...that's not a good sign.

Carb #2 looks like a good candidate, but has a manual choke bracket on it and you still need the rod linkage bracket from another carb to convert it over.

What type of throttle linkage does your 65 Valiant have? Rod or cable linkage? If rod, then neither of those carbs will work since they are cable linkage carbs. You say that you don't see the cge for the throttle linkage rod, which tells me that your car has the old rod linkage. Neither of these carbs will work for you.


Carb #1 looks to be the closer of the two, but the choke linkage is all wrong. You will need to swap the choke linkage from another slant six carb to it.

Carb #2 is a manual choke carb, which will also need to have the choke linkage swapped if you want to use the automatic choke thermostat.

I would wait for the right carb to pop up.

As a bolt in and go, yes that is the correct answer. On the Holley 1920's I just sold a a couple months back they had the rod linkage bail and it just screws into the throttle arm. So if he can find a rod linkage bracket and bushing from another member, he can mount any of the late 1 barrel Holleys.

Both the ones Reed shows are correct, and have the right bracket, but are missing the rubber/plastic bushing in the bracket to retain the rod linkage.

Ah. I didn't know the rod-throttle linkage was a bolt-on item. I haven't messed with one of those for almost 20 years, not since I converted my very first project car ever, a 64 Valiant Signet, form the one barrel to a Super Six.
