Wonderful. The gasket looks like it was pinched around that hole as well. Makes sense I guess.
So for putting the head back on, I should just ensure that I can get the cost hanger through there and I should be all set?

Place head gasket on block to see if it was on correctly (both dowel pins in their correct place) it may have not been.

Yes. I would clean the top of the block and the bottom of the head on the gasket sealing surfaces, then CC the head and measure how far down in the bore your pistons sit at TDC (write those numbers down somewhere for later use). install the new gasket and check that the hole is unobstructed then sit the head on the block and run the coathanger down the oil hole and make sure it will get all the way down to the cam like it should. If it does, torque the head down and be happy.

DI- I got a couple of records of Dr. Demento shows at a garage sale years ago. They were supposed to be sold only to radio stations and not to the general public. They have such classics as "Boot to the head," "Let's Blow Up the Tow Truck," and "The Souse Family." I think one of the records has Weird Al's appearance where he started his career with "Another One Rides the Bus." Classic stuff.

How do I go about CCing my head? I've ever really looked into how to do any of that business but I have had a distant plan to shave the head sometime so it wouldn't hurt to figure those numbers out now.

I would crank the engine and see if you get oil out the hole, just to be sure.

So I'm not getting any oil through the hole at all....oil pump?
EDIT: heh. Silly me, I drained the oil earlier. How can I put oil in with the head off?

Pour it into the lifter galley, where you can look down and see them.

Still no oil coming up.
I can insert the probe into the block just under 5". This doesn't seem like enough to me based on Reeds measurements. Do I have some sort of blockage? Or is my oil pump dead?

In total, when assembled, I can insert the probe about 7". I'm very confused.
Seems like the block and head aren't lining up for this hole...

Maybe install an oil pressure gauge where the sending unit is and just double check the oil pressure. Just to prove the pump. Then it's either a plugged passage or the bearing spun.

Thing is is I can insert far into the block and right through the head no problem when they are apart.
Seems like the holes are totally misaligned. Doesn't make sense to me but if I can get a coat hanger through the head and the block when they're separated but not when they're together, then misalignment is all it can be. Can I drill the holes bigger or should I be looking elsewhere for a solution?

If you can put the probe into the hole 7 inches when the head is on the block then that is far enough to get past the head gasket. If the probe is stopping at 5 inches into the block with the head off then it sounds like you have a blockage somewhere in the block, 1-2 inches from the cam journal.

Try this. Put the probe in the hole and keep a hand on it while an assistant turns the motor over by hand. The tip of the probe should be in contact with the rearmost cam journal and your should feel a vibration through the probe when you turn the motor over as the tip of the probe drags across the surface of the journal. For obvious reasons don't put much pressure on the probe when you do this or you might mar the cam journal. Try and do this in a very quiet manner so you can feel and hear any vibrations in the probe.

Do you know if this motor was ever taken apart before? Any abuse that might have cause the cam bearing to spin?

I am beginning to think that you may need to pull the engine, remove the cam, and remove the rear cam gallery plug to either check for cam bearing misalignment or to send a probe up the hole from the bottom.
