I am considering putting this engine together myself after machine work, is there a good reference source that will give me what I need to know without all of the fluff.

I would need torque values of course and am looking for cut and dry procedures. I am fairly acquainted with the procedures necessary and have the equipment to do the job just have never put together this particular engine.

Thanks for any suggestions

The factory service manual come to mind. Barring that, you could try your luck with a Haynes or Chiltons. If cost is an issue, try the reference section of your local library. I have found that there are very often factory service manuals in the reference section of the library.

Under Engine FAQ look at the engine build matrix. There are some no nonsense builds listed.

I am really leaning at this point toward putting this engine together myself, this means that more than likely Im gonna do it.

I am not very good with computers, I am trying to find what you suggested I look at but cannot find engine FAQ and not sure what is an engine build matrix. Can you help me to understand?

Is there anyone here interested in helping me put this together, I am sure I will have alot of questions, I am getting the service manual in the mail I hope soon which I am hoping will be a big help. Thanks in advance.

BTW I like your dart, I had a 66 for years, also a 69 GT and a 72. Great cars

If you go to the FAQ in this section it will give you a bunch of links to information, like answers to a lot of the most frequently asked questions. Just click on the red link for engine build matrix and it will take you to the thread listing several engine builds.

Hope that this helps!

Linda

Thank-you, I am looking for a step by step guide to the details of re-building a slant six. I understand that could be a pretty comprehensive and exhaustive write-up but sure it has been done?

I am hoping to have a service manual soon, I do well with pictures if anyone knows of an on-line compilation of videos.

I will be doing a stock re-build, I would like to increase the efficiency of the engine without sacrificing gas mileage.

The engine will be used within its original truck chassis which will be a driver/user.

Thanks, I see alot of info about performance up-grades ect, I am not interested in racing the engine. Maybe I am just not seeing what I should be.

I guess someone here would have already heard about it but I would have just about SWORN that there was a book written about twenty years ago dedicated to re-building the slant six engine, I do not know the author but I seem to remember seeing it.

I thought it would be that easy!
