Hi guys, my choke thermostat is on it's last legs and I'm looking for a new one. However, I have a few questions on what exactly I can use. I found a couple on ebay but they look a little different from the one on my car.

It's a 1971 3.7l Slant 6 with a holley 1920 1bbl on it.
Can someone give me some specifics as to what I can use?
Thanks in advance!

What's important is what kind of exhaust manifold you have. All slant-6 exhaust manifolds will fit on all slant-6s, but the choke provisions are different. The '70-'72 exhaust manifolds have an open "stove" (hole directly into the inside of the manifold). This is sealed off by a stamped sheetmetal cup that fits into the hole, with a (no longer available) gasket around its perimeter. On top of this cup is bolted the choke thermostat.

The '60-'65, '66-'69, and '73-up manifolds all have a closed "well" (pocket without an opening) in the same location. The choke thermostat bolts directly overtop the well. Choke thermostats interchange within but not among these three year ranges.

Can you show us a clear, sharp photo of what you have?

Hey, sorry that I haven't responded to your post Dan, I've been swamped with classes and midterms so I haven't had a chance to take pictures. My last midterm is today so I'm going to try and take pictures this evening and put them up.

Another update is that the choke seems to have stopped working fully. The duster is extremely hard to start when cold and sometimes even difficult to start when hot. As far as I'm aware, the choke stove has never been replaced and looks pretty bad.

I have been seeing some posts about converting to an electric choke system, is this difficult? Also, how much would it cost? I saw a $65 tag but that seemed a little low for a conversion.

Like I said, I will try and post photos tonight, thanks for your reply. And again, sorry about letting your post go unanswered.

No worries -- post the pic on here and there'll probably be at least one good option to get your car starting quickly again.

No good, please no Facebook links. If you are not able to post photos to the board (see instructions here ) or use an actual photo hosting site (Flickr, photobucket, picasa), then email them to me at 62lancer at gmail dot com and I'll post them for you.

Have something against social networking?

Just kidding, I'll upload to photobucket and edit my post.

Just a side note though, I made the link a public link of my album, you don't need to sign up or sign in to see it. Just have to click and it will take you directly there.

No. I have about half a dozen objection to Fecebook, though. Killed my account a year ago. Don't miss it. Google+ is much less objectionable.

Nope. Fecebook is blocked at the /hosts level on all my machines. I do not need Zuckerberg's slimy operation snooping around my business.

And now that the photos are posted: You need a '70-'72 choke thermostat. I am pretty sure I have a new one. Send me a PM.

I don't know if I should open a new thread for this, but the starter (I think) is making some very different noises while turning over now. I don't know if it's wearing out or if that's a normal thing. It doesn't sound very healthy. Sounds strained.

I definitely have a new (not "remanufactured" junk) starter.

This is a choke i bought off ebay...i'm using with a holley 1920, 72' dart swinger intake, on a 84 d150 utiline truck. I think it worked out great for me. It's 14.99 + 3.90 shipping they have 5 available

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121002298155

But i guess by looking at your pics...your exhaust manifold might be different?

By the looks of it this maybe what your looking for
