As of a few days ago, still alot of work to be done, not running yet but I have turned every nut and bolt and replaced everything that needed replacing that I have been able to find.

I still have alot of reassembly, I have a sure grip differential to install still, I want to install disk brakes on rear just because I think it would be a neat project ect ect.

I don't understand your reluctance to convert to HEI. It is technically superior to the Mopar ignition and is actually cheaper and easier to install. If you are dead set against switching to HEI, then you will need to get a Mopar electronic ignition control "brain" and wire it in. It can be from any slant six or V8 car, truck, or van, but it would be easier to install if it came from a truck since the wiring harness would be closer to what you want.

I will need to see pictures of the insides of the distributors to tell you if they are "lean burn" or standard electronic ignition distributors.

Here are the engine compartment wiring diagrams for a 1984 Dodge van. The truck should be pretty much the same, except for the length of the wires:

I just googled Mopar electronic ignition control "brain and yes I have one of these mounted on the firewall

I also had one of these mounted on the 84 firewall as well I believe....scratch that I know it was there and I still have it

I will get the pictures for you and post them tomm evening. Thanks for the diagrams and the help.

Yay. If you do have the "brain" on the firewall then you don't have a lean burn controlled ignition. But verify that you don't have a lean burn controlled carb.

Ok so I made a mistake, the 1984 parts truck that I am using the harness from is electronic ignition, dont know how I became confused on that, at this point the only points type dist I have is the one I pulled from salvage yard from a 1984 truck slant six.

So what do I have here, it has the two pickups and so the harness has the two plugs. I guess it is the lean burn dist.

This is the original dist from my 86 truck, this is the one I want to use, as you can see it is single pick-up and one plug, I am hoping that I can just trace the extra wires back to some point, clip them and forget about them.

Unfortunately I am left with all of this, I do not remember these being plugged into anything, the truck was automatic trans, maybe some of this had to do with that?

I am hoping that I can ( again ) trace these back to bulhead or whereever on firewall and eliminate them.

I am trying to minimize what I have here and get rid of whats not going to get used.

Just an overall view if it would help identify anything, alot of the stuff is just temporarily bolted in place so that I can verify location, I need an A/C compressor if anyone has to sell.

Correct, a lean burn distributor.

These two plugs went onto this connector on intake, I do not know what the connector is nor what they are supposed to accomplish. My 1986 manifold does not have this device although the casting imprint is there.

This is also a lean burn distributor. Note the absence of the vacuum advance can. If you pulled that pickup plate you would also find that there was no mechanical advance mechanism in the distributor. You do not want to use this distributor for anything except racing or as a trigger for a fuel injection system. in other words, you don't want it in your truck.

You will need to find a slant six distributor from a vehicle that had standard electronic ignition. DO NOT USE THE MOPAR PERFORMANCE DISTRIBUTOR. The springs in those kits are way too light for a street driven truck and are intended for drag racing. Get a distributor from a truck or van form the 70s or early 80s.

Those are the wiring plugs that would plug into the lean burn computer. THe lean burn computer would have been originally mounted on the air cleaner or near the battery.

Numbers one thru three were not on my 1986 carb, I removed them from the 84 carb thinking I may need them, again maybe they are unnecessary, the truck ran fine without them.

I can see what they are within the service manual but the desc of their function is not clear to me.

I should have put a # 4 on the linkage in between 1 and 2 because that was also missing from my carb.

I also did not have the choke stove ( the deal on the intake to carb ) hooked up when I took delivery of truck as some of those pieces were missing as well.
