What engine stands do you guys use? I'm looking into them, I'm just worried about it because the slant is so long.

That would be one of the best kinds, but for real safety you might see if you can get the "U" "C" shaped legs as the slant engine is long and with the head on are heavy towards one side.

If you wanted to you could build a wider outer set of wheels on one of those. The square tube the outer wheels are mounted just bolts on and a longer one could be substituted and the wheels mounted on that one. Thar should make it more stable.

...WAY more stable and handles more weight more safely than the one pictured above.

Used to have one of those other ones but found it to be too tippy, especially with a slant on board. Gave it to my daughter's boyfriend who works on aluminum 4-cylinder rice motors. Works fine for those smaller, lighter motors.

Here in the States, Harbor Freight sells a "1000 lb." stand with 4 wheels for cheap ($69.00). It says the steel wheels are for easily moving it around. When I got mine, I read the instruction sheet. (No, not before building the stand up, only after, for laughs!) The "warning" said "Do not move the stand with an engine on it"!!! Made in China. The stand is definitely stressed with a /6, but will roll on a smooth floor. Fun stuff, huh?

They are making them cheaper now then back when. i have 3 of these stands I bought back in 98-99. They all started with 400 big blocks on them, and then graduated to slant sixes. Never had a problem with them holding a slant, they were on the edge with a fully loaded 400-4v from a Cordoba (635-780 lbs+). I wouldn't trust one bought today for that kind of abuse (oddly the engine crane I bought in 99 also has seen lots of 400-440 pulls and has just kicked along with full blown engine and tranny slant six swaps with no issues 14 years later...).

Whatever happens to be cheap on craigslist when I need another one...

Whatever you get, if new, check over the welds closely before you use it. I've found crappy welds on the chinese import stuff.
