I stumbled on a 1975 (10' drum BBP) 7 1/4" rearend and I plan to swap it into my 1964 Dart GT.
-Is it a straight swap? Leaf Spring mounts in the same place?
-Is the 75 flange to flange narrower? (by a couple of inches I've read?)
I would like any comments from people that have done this swap late body rearend to early A.-Thanks

Yes, provided your 64 already has a 7 1/4 rear axle.

IIRC, the late rear is roughly 3/4" wider per side because of the brake offset.

So the 75 rearend is wider?(1 1/2" overall?)

so 'Zilla is the offset the difference in the width of the drums?(1 3/4 to 2 1/2)? I am curious because I want to run same wheels/tires on all 4 corners. (I am going to swap the rearend at the same time I do the late a body front disc upgrade) Thanks, I appreciate the help.

Yes, the late pads/drums are wider, but the rear end is narrower in the 1973-1976 years by about 3/4"

I've seen this bolt in and with "stock" style wheels (rallyes, etc...), the difference is negligible (go to aftermarket wheels and the tape measure comes out).

The width of the bearing to flange spacing is wider on the BBP axles by 3/4" or so.

Cripes, the over all width of the axles are 56.5". The center point on the springs is 43". The distance from the front of the brake drum to the spring is 5". The FSM measures to the "center line" of the tire. The online sites measure to the brake backing plate.

It doesn't matter what size of axle or brakes. The 7.25" with 9" brake out of my '65 Dart was the same width as the 8.25" axle with 10" brakes that replaced it.

The standard 15x7" Mopar plain steel rim has a 3.5" back spacing and allows you to run a P236x60 tire on that rim. Which gives you 1/2" from the leaf springs and the fender well lip. It centers the tire and has plenty of clearance.

That's what you get if you over-inflate a P235 ?
