Thought I might pass this experience on to others. At the Clay City race, I was making a pass and when I manually shifted from 1st to 2nd gear nothing happened. Engine tached to 6K, and I got out of it and shifted to 3rd gear with no issue. After many shift linkage inspections, and adjusting of the Lokar kickdown cable, I had no success of getting the car into 2nd gear. It would not shift into 2nd at any rpm or speed, whether going from 3rd to 2nd or going from 1st to 2nd. No noises or vibration coming from the transmission. I was trying to race, so I just drove it in "Drive" at the track and the 400+ miles home.

When I got back home, I dropped the trans oil pan to do an inspection. Everything looked very clean, and in place. I did notice that the front band had a lot of slack/play in it.

Then I got my factory service manual out (why don't I check this thing first, instead of jumping into stuff) and read that the front band engages 2nd gear.

So I finally get my head out of my a@@ and look at the front band adjuster screw. The screw/locknut was visibly backed out 4-5 turns! Needless to say, found the solution. Upon reflection, I was getting longer delays and softer shifts into 2nd gear during the past month.

Humbled my own stupidity,
Brian

Glad it was a easy fix.

Wow, glad it was an easy fix too! We need racers next weekend for sure. If I looked at the points right it looks like you could easily jump to number 2 on the East coast, or maybe even the East Coast champ depending on what you have to throw away.

Pump the brakes Rick. I will be there, but doubt that I will advance in the standings.

Rick
PS. just asked the wife to think about me driving the truck in the race. I have been driving since Wednesday and with my foot brace I can drive just fine. She said, well the truck is probably not as fast racing as it is going down the road! I said yes that is true. I think I am wearing her down. Truck in the quarter? About 65 MPH.
