The weather here is cold and damp, so instead of crawling around outside under the cars, I'll stay cozy and type: Two of our 1975 /6's just started dripping oil , I think from the oil pump assemblies. I've been able to get a wrench on two bolt heads, but will have to put the cars up on stands to really get a look at the other attach bolts. I'm hoping that just snugging things down will end the leakage. That's my armchair plan. Does anyone have any thoughts, any surprises that I may find?? Thanks, stay warm. P

Do not try to retighten the cover plate bolts. The mounting bolts can be snugged though.

If the oil is coming from the cover plate, you will need to remove the cover, and replace the o-ring. If you tighten without replacing the o-ring, it will have become brittle, and will leak worse.

Check to see that the pressure relief cap is snug.

Check to see if you have leakage from the alternator bracket. The front bolt that goes into the block goes into the lifter area. Clean and apply a dab of RTV to this bolt prior to installing. It isn't under pressure, so shouldn't leak once a bit of sealant is applied.

Hit the whole area with carb cleaner. Then Brakekleen. Then compressed air. Then run the motor and see where it's really coming from. It may be the oil pressure sender.

Had some oil on the pump area on my 63 Belvedere. Oil came from the Distributor shaft, so i removed the distributer. After insatlling an O-ring, everything is fine again.

Great advice! Thanks to all. You helped me focus clearly on the area, so when I finally DO go under the cars, I now have a definite plan. P :)

Clean oil pump and surrounding area above pump up to valve cover, than run engine to see where its leaking.

I'm having the same exact issue with my 75 D100. I thought it was coming from around base of oil pump so I snugged those bolts with no success. I then realized it was the cover bolts. Is the o-ring all is needed or is there a gasket that goes with it also? I bought a gasket for the oil pump before I figured where leak was really coming from so how hard is it to remove /replace pump gasket with engine in the truck or can this be done?
Thanks, Sam

Yep, only an o-ring under the cover (Felpro 70078 I think)...trucks are nice in that they have room to play to an oil pump change out isn't as bad as a car.
