hello slantsix sages- have two questiions . 1st- from 60-80 the sl6 had mechanical valve lifters. from 81-2000end of production the sl6 had hydraulic valve lifters. were there any specific advantages to having hydraulic valve lifters in this engine? thought the only advantage to hydraulics was you didnt have to adjust them. 2d- been looking for an f body wagon or 4 door sl6 and stickshift for 4 years now. no luck. seems about the same chance the arizona had at pearl. have been looking at m bodies(diplomats and gran fury) too but can only find automatics and mostly 318s. remember reading that m bodies could be ordered with a 3 or 4 speed stick. never saw one . has anyone here actually seen one like this. thinking my chances would be better whistling dixie. thanks tons bob f

IIRC, the main reason for the switch to juice lifters was emissions.

I have seen a couple Slant/4speed wagons, can't recall any 4 doors.

Seems to me like there was a 4 speed Diplomat for sale on one of the Slant boards many years ago.

Yes,I have seen several Station wagons with 4 speeds and you could have had a very nice running example in real decent shape for cheap, right here on this board just a couple months back. Sorry you missed it.

Mis-adjusted valves can play havoc with emissions. Emissions warranties were also required to extend past the valve adjustment interval.

The only manual-trans M-body I know of was a swap using a modified F-body pedal assembly.
