hello. finally getting some work done. got the 904 pulled and test fit the adapter plate today. so far everything looks good, all the bolt holes are lining up, nicely centered and a nice flush fit against the block. soon i will start a list of parts used along the way.

looks like i won't need to do any trimming or tunnel mods. lots of room in the 84 pickup. the plate and trans bell add quite a bit of width.

904? That looks like a 727 to me. This will be an interesting test case.

DI, thats the header, the bracket has been removed. hope to be able to put one of some configuration back in that area. i will take some better pics, only had my phone for these pics.

you can see the bottom left of the adapter on right edge of this pic.

In 1968, Chrysler developed a 727 to fit the Slant 6. I believe that is the trans you have in your photo. Should bolt right up to any Slant. Before 1968, they made factory adapter plates to mount the V8 727.

pohlman, sorry for the delayed response. the plate was sourced from http://www.wilcap.com/ in a group buy, part #225-350. i have no idea what machine was used, but it is a nicely made part.

727 it is, thanks for the replies, tag under hood says 904. one last question on this subject, does the 904 and 727 use the same slip yoke?

should get a solid 4 or 5 hours to work on it tomorrow.

Previous owner probably blew the poor 904 up and put the heavier duty 727 in place...They do not share the same yoke, the 727/most A-833 use the 29/30 spline large yoke and the 904/most 3-spd manual/some A-833OD's use the 26/27 spline small yoke...

hello. got the starter modified, adapter plate mounted, crank hub adapter and flex plate mounted and bell housing clearanced for starter. the bore for the lower starter mount is larger than the radius of the starter mount and has quite a bit of play so if using lower mount, be sure to check pinion to ring gear clearance. lower starter mount will not work with rear sump oil pan.

I would bet it would be easier to find a junkyard late model starter without the nosecone for future installs than grind one off...

hello all. sorry for the slow progress. got the trans mounted and will have the cross member/mount done tomorrow. then i can start on the peripherals.

DI, if you could supply the part number for the late model starter, i will make a note of it when i post the parts list for those to follow, thanks.

everything still going together nicely, fitting well.


the dipstick, TV cable and cooler lines all connect front right corner, gonna be a snug fit here.


looks like this is the only access to converter bolts, lower starter hole.

Just out of interest,have you dialled in the alignment between the trans centreline and the crank? Was it good to go or did you need offset dowels?
