I'm sure you guys know this one. I'm considering converting my '67 dart front drum brakes, 9" to disc. I'm told the conversion kits require a drum brake spindle for 10" brakes only, the rest is OK. Isn't the ball joint and upper control arm different for 10" brake cars vs 9" brake cars? Or is it true that all I need for the conversion kit is the 10" drum brake spindle to swap out?

Upper ball joint and A-arm are the same on 9" and 10" drums. The lower ball joint is different, but the lower arm is the same.

That I do not know.

If you have to use the 10" spindle, you'll have to use the bigger ball joint. IIRC, the holes for mounting the spindle to the ball joint are different.

So, wait, is it the upper or lower ball joint that is different size for the disc brake conversion?

There are larger and smaller upper ball joints for the upper control arm, right? If I have 9" drums do I need to buy upper control arms that take the larger ball joint?

I have brake spindles from 10" drum system, but not upper control arms. Are you saying that I can put large ball joints in the lowers I have, but I need the uppers that take the larger ball joint?

All the LCA's are the same. You can swap between the big and small lower ball joint. (The balljoint and stud part is the same - the holes that the bolts pass through are larger. If yours have enough meat around them you can drill the lbj to the proper size and reuse them).

The small UCA goes with the small upper balljoint, the big UCA goes with the big upper ball joint. These you can't mix and match.

Here is an option for you. Assuming your UCA bushings and upper ball joints are in good shape, this will same you time and money. It will let you use your current small UCA and small balljoint with the 10"/disc spindle. If your UCA bushings need changing it's a wash, you may as well just get the proper pieces since your forced to take the arm off the car anyway.
