Questions:

It appears to have everything -- bellhousing, rods, linkages, z-bar, shifter, clutch pp and disc. As it's going into a '62 Lancer, I know I'll need a different driveshaft. But otherwise, it all bolts in, correct? Anything else I need to ask the seller?

Finally, it's a 13 hour drive from here, so I'm thinking that getting it shipped is the right move. How much do these things weigh, and is that a good or bad idea?

R

I'll be watching, I'm looking to do the same on my 62 Valiant! Is it an a body a833? If not the tail housing is too long and shifter pads are in the wrong places. You will also need a new spedo cable.

1975 version is upwards of 120+ lbs with only the guts...The 1976-1980 A/F body aluminum body versions are closer to 88-90 lbs (no linkage, shifter, bellhousing, etc...)

Concerns on a used transmission that are deal killers, or price issues:
1) Bearing retainer has wear on the inner race that can cause issues with the input shaft bearing.
2) gear wear can be an issue, and on heavily abused aluminum cases the countershaft can egg the hole in the case and cause some misshifts due to clearances under load.
3) leaks are another sign something needs to be redone.

It is also nice to get the driveline yoke with it, since some use the A-833/727 29/30 spline yoke, and others use the A-904/manual 3 spd 26/27 spline yoke.

You will need a pre-1968 flywheel, and make sure it's an A/F body tranny, not the truck (long) tranny as previously mentioned.

Hope it is a good find.

Phew! I'd be lying if I said I really completely understood your list... save for the truck version (the a-435) not being applicable. As I won't be able to inspect the thing in person, and even if I did, I don't know what I'd be looking for, I wonder whether this is a good idea. On ther other hand, as Daffy Duck put it, gotta have SOME fun.

That said, if I decide to go for it, can I re-use my current flywheel? And which driveshaft do I need?

Truck version of the A-833OD is not the NP435...the transmission tailshaft is quite a bit longer than the A/F body tailshaft and the shifter is in the wrong place and shift rods are the wrong length to fit in an A-body without lots of modifications...

Just remember if you get it in sorry shape (#1,2,3), you are paying for the tranny/freight, and a $500 rebuild at a tranny shop...It would be frustrating to plug it all in have it pop out of gear or not lock into gear then have to tear it all back out...

You will need your flywheel, and you will need to measure up the driveline for your application after installation.

Been there, done that. $500 is cheap, too.
