Put car on frame stands. Remove front suspension and driveshaft. Roll big shop cart under car. Remove 4 k frame bolts. Lift car off stands with forklift leaving motor and trans and k member on cart roll cart out of way. Rebuild everything and put back together. Get car off the ground as high as you can if installing motor and transmission as one unit.

But for the do-it-yourselfer working at home in a single car garage with nothing more fancy than a cherry picker, floor jack, and jack stands, separating the engine from the trans and pulling each out separate is much easier and cheaper.

I did that in the stone parking lot at work. With the forklift from the farmer down the road( with a slant in it). I do them together because I can't get my fat hands in to get the top bellhousing bolts out. Take your time and be careful. Have an extra set of hands even if there just there to drink your beer. Accidents happen way to fast.
