Starting to gather parts for HEI/Recurve for my 64 Dart GT and have not found a supplier that carries the Snap Rings? (I bent one to Hell and the other went sailing through my garage.)

and is there a better brand pickup (Standard LX103) I should look for? And Reluctor? or is Standard Brand Good?

The small parts are not available anymore unless you have some cores laying around for spares. (If you have any pre-1980 V-8 distributors in the local yards you can pull one there...be aware that the V-8 ESC distributors, especially the big block versions have a unitary shaft and rotor crown, so no spring to be had in there....).

I have in the last year or two bought SMP, Airtex, and some rock auto clearances, and I have noticed that the quality of the SMP LX-103 was not any different than the $2 less airtex unit from Autozone (I think since so few are ordered that there is one offshore manufacturer for these items and the vacuum advance cans, they just box them up for which company and you get to pay for the name at the same quality).

Looks like you are working on a 1973-1975 core with the 15L slots from the picture...If desired go a little heavy on the slotted spring side (pull the gear, and use an 11/32" wrench to turn the post a little outward...toward the outside/end of the perch)...this will limit the total useable advance at street rpms (a little like a short slot as it slows the advance once the weights start to pull on the heavy slotted spring). Also during reassembly, note that the rotor slot in the governor needs to face the heavy spring.

Clean it up, respring it, and lube it, and see how it runs...

I pulled the picture above from Charles (BigSlantFan) article just to show the snap ring clip. The core I have is Very clean with a 9R.

What I have to start with:

the wires are alittle crusty on the pick-up

Even better...just clean everything up and make sure to lube the plate pivots, shaft and weights and it will be a runner with your spring choice.

If the wires have no cracks in the wire insulation, you may be able to get by for a bit on just cleaning up the current pick up....

Looking at the springs in the picture, you are looking at running the 'linear style" curve (somewhat equal springs on each weight), which I use in my current hi-po setup and works for most 4 barrel and high 9-12:1 setups...

Optical illusion caused by not looking straight down on it.

Funny! I thought the same thing when I posted the picture, ran back into the garage and they look perfect.
