hello, when you install the arp main studs in the slant block do you install them into the block dry or is it okay to use Loctite?

also I had a heck of a time removing the main caps With the arp studs installed.

I would guess that If they were installed in the block without thread locker then the main cap removal would be easy as once the nut and washer is removed, then the stud could be wound out before main cap removal.


any thoughts or insight would be appreciated.

As far as I know you just screw the studs in finger tight, not bottomed out and no Loctite.

I have all of those instruction sheets..

I guess in my OCD to make sure stuff is tight I want to Loctite them, but It sure does make removal of the main caps with the crank installed very tough..

if finger tite is okay then I guess I will try that.


that way I can use the internal hex on the stud to wind the stud out and the main cap will come off with no fuss.

I also observed a bit of main oil feed blockage with the studs on this attempt of engine re assembly, so I cut a few threads off the cam side studs upon re installation in an effort to not block the oil feed to the mains.

Yes, check and trim the cam side main studs, as needed, to be sure nothing blocks oil flow to the crank.

It is a good idea to align-hone the mains when you convert over to studs.

yes doc, I did trim them up ... no oil flow interference to the mains now.

I will have to align hone them next time I have it apart.
