8) All right guys, I'm new to this forum and have several questions about the racing circuit here.
I'm planning on building a /6 racer in the near future. I've already started on the motor and am looking for a body to put it in.
I understand that these races are done on the bracket basis and am assuming that it does not matter how fast you run.
My plans are to build a turbo powered slant and build on this engine as I go.
My question is, if the car is running in the 15's, will it be competetive enough to run some of these races? Hopefully it will run better than that, but I'm looking on the bad side of things as of right now.
I will run it in the bracket programs at my local tracks at times, but would love to run it in an all /6 race!
CharlieS, get ready for me to bug the crap out of you when I start on this engine!

First off Welcome!

Be sure and read Doug article on Bracket Racing. http://www.slantsix.org/articles/bracke ... t_race.htm
Also what category do you plan on running Pro or Footbrake? Pro classes allow you run delay boxes but you must run 7.99 or quicker at most tracks. Some have a 8.50 break point but IHRA and NHRA follow the 7.99 and quicker rule.
Footbrake is all run and does not allow delay boxes.

Slant 6 races are bracket races. This means it does not matter what ET you run. We had a car at Britol this year that was dialed something like 20.00 sec in the 1/4 and Charles Myers was running 10.24. ET does not matter in bracket racing so build what you like and come join us, we would love to have you!

Another welcome.... :D
When it comes to bracket racing, it is more a matter of being able to cut a good light then anything. The good news is that a SL6 car can be pretty consistant so running on your dial-in is pretty easy.

So get that engine / car ready to race.
If you can, get up to Gatlinburg, TN at the end of the month and talk with some of the racers, I'm sure you would pick-up a few tips by doing that.

IT IS ALREADY GUTTED WITH FIBERGLASS 340 HOOD AND CENTERLINE WHEELS ON ALL FOUR WITH MICKEY THOMPSON SLICKS AND 4:62 GEARS WITH A SPOOL IN THE REAR ALONG WITH A FUEL CELL AND HOLLY ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP. IT ALSO HAS LEXAN WINDOWS. IF INTERESTED THE ROLLING CHASSIS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE IN 3 OR 4 WEEKS. ROB SIMMONS ON THIS BOARD ALSO EXPRESSED AN INTEREST SO I WILL HAVE TO GIVE HIM FIRST REFUSAL.

Norm,
Thanks for the offer, but I'm looking at running something older. I would like to find a 61-65 Valiant, preferably a wagon, believe it or not.
I have several friends of mine looking and they all think I'm crazy for even thinking about doing this. Of course they all think you need massive ci to go racing if your serious.
Most of them flipped when I put my roadster on the road, blown /6, and I can't get any of them to run me for a short distance????
