As with any other engine cost will be determined by how much power you really want to add. Also, it helps to have a realistic goal before you start.

If you want to spend $300 and have a motor that will spank big blocks you will be very disappointed.

The best place to look for ideas of what to do for your engine is this site. Do some basic searches for things like "cam selection" or "what carb" or "four barrel" etc... and familiarize yourself with what other people have done and what can be done.

Also, most people who have experience with the slant six will tell you that the big name parts places (like Clifford) are actually bad places to go looking for hop-up items to buy for the slant six. You are much better off doing the homework and making some realistic goals. Figure out your intended use and realistic RPM range. Daily driver? Weekend cruiser? 1/4 mile rocket? 3000 RPM? 7000 RPM? Finally, what is your budget? These parameters will dictate how you build the motor and what parts you should buy.

Have you done a valve adjustment and recurved the distributor?
How about trying some different carb jets?

There is power to be found in your current engine... you just have to spend the time to find it.

Go to Frequently asked questions right here on the engine page. Engine build matrix may be a good place to start.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions. Looks like some homework is needed to be done. Appreciate it.

I haven't done anything as of yet.
