I got all setup to build a dash voltage limiter and noticed that temperature spec for transistor is 0* C to 70* C. 0* C is of course is 32* F which will be exceeded easily in Maine for about half of a year fall through spring. Chances of this car being used in subfreezing weather by me is not great at the moment with heated storage, however I’m thinking the electrics installed in this car should mimic antifreeze protection to -20* F or more just incase it dose see some cool weather.

If device is operated below zero C, will its 5 volt output deviate enough on the high side to cause a problem?

Any advice from a more savvy electronics guy welcomed.

It may deviate a little, but not enough to worry about.


Plus it will quickly heat up anyway.

you guys get only -20? I'm just over in New Brunswick and it can reach high 30's even up to -40. (usually -40 once or twice a year)

We are near the coast with weather close to what Charlotte Co, NB would get. Central and northern Maine sees the same weather you get in inland NB; and my -20 F, not a toasty -20 C... I do know -40F = -40C

I work in trades, up here trades still use the normal way of doing things so I was quoting F. Once a woman came from the local university while i was working in a metal shop and wanted some aluminium. She gave use the measurements in cm. Only the boss had a tape with both imperial and metric (they bought the measuring tape at mardins for us) After she left we had a good laugh.

Yeah metric plywood still is 4'x8'.
