hello friends,
i spoke to Larry at Clifford today and expressed interest in buying a Dutra hyper pak manifold from him. He said i'm the first person who has called in 8 months and the last time they ran 25 of them, they sat around for a year and a half.
Well, I had him commit to a run of 10 at a price of $460 a unit. So if i can get 10 of you slanted fellas out there to commit to buying a hyper pak manifold, we could probably make this happen. I'm going to PM Dmarv of Exeter Auto supply and see if he would like to take head of this. After his great job with the offy buy, i think it would work out okay and he can handle the distribution/shipping to everyone who buys them. hell, i'm in los angeles, and last time i checked, Clifford was out by Lake Elsinore. i'd be willing to go pick up the manifolds from Clifford and drive them to Exeter if it all works out.

please let me know what you guys think. Input is welcome.

-alex

Yes and how soon would Clifford need the money?
Are these by chance going to be the "Fat Pak" intakes? that's what I would be interested in.

Be aware that the last run of Clifford Hyper Paks were junk. Poorly cast, crappy machining, etc.

Unless he is going to improve them I would run away.

I would NOT trust that prick with my credit card numbers either.

Call Larry again and watch the story change - each and every time. Just curious - why would Dan Marvin want any part of this?

Being a person that at one time had 3 of the 4 examples of hyper pak intakes (didn't have an original, but have handled the one at wild cat autowrecking, have used a dutra fat pak, have an early clifford, and have a "late" one).

If they were like the early ones, they would be perfect, by far the best version for an aftermarket was the Dutra (Doug did an awesome job on his castings)...The late one i converted to fuel injection/dry manifold, because of the scabs, bubbles, cavities, and pockets in the plenum and runners...so I knew it wouldn't help flow puddled fuel as well. The casting metal is different in the late ones as well, it's not as nice as the dutra or early clifford so they are using scrap cookware in the castings or something.

Keep an eye out, there are still a fair amount of these floating around, and occasionally they come up because someone doesn't want to fart around with all the linkage to fabricate and then the tuning for the street to make it work.

Okay, I'm missing something here, if Dutra makes them and his are better why not just by them straight from him? :?:

After much research and reading your responses its probably better to spend our money somewhere else. I heard rumors about cliffords bad bussinesss practice, and I believe you guys. No group buy after all. I'm still on the hunt for a hyper pack.

Doug did the project originally and then sold the molds to Clifford.

If you have your heart set on one they pop up quite often for sale. The good castings had multiple carb mounting patterns, the bad ones just had 1 or 2.

You can also try the Aussie Hurricane intake, it is comparable to a Hyper Pak.

Reality is, unless you really want the look of a HP intake, the Offy and standard Cliffords have much better manners and probably make more power.

I offered to buy 12-15 raw cast intakes from him a year or so ago at his cost +10% and he wouldn't do it. He then offered to sell me the patterns because he said he was tired of dealing with the Slant guys and wanted someone else to have that headache. But he wanted too much for them, considering they were at the end of their life when Doug sold them to Clifford and he has done nothing to improve them and keeps trying to make castings with them.
