Hi all,

I had some work done on my valiant (AP6 - 1965). These came standard with drum brakes up, however about 10 years ago disc brakes were installed.

My mechanic found that a valve in the master cylinder was left in the system. This will cause the pad to maintain contact with the disc, even after application.

I found a discussion here http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... sure+valve
where Joshua recommends to remove it.

Perhaps this post of mine could inform anybody in the future thinking about putting disc brakes in their vehicle. It could only help!

Opinions will differ on the subject, but I wouldn't usd a drum master for a disc conversion- it would be easy to "run out of fluid" as the disc pads wore & the pistons moved out to compensate. A disc M/C has a much larger reservior for the front circuit because of the larger "displacement" of the caliper pistons.
