I have been meaning to ask this for a while, I am pretty sure I already know the answer but....

Id like to become more active in the slanting world, I am hoping there is a local slant club of some sorts, I have read posts about a slant newsletter and have searched endlessly on the internet about joining/getting involved with that but not only can I not find the back issues I also cannot find the front issues.

Are these back issues avail on C.D and if so how can I get a copy? Is this newsletter still being printed? If so how can I subscribe?

Is there a slant organization with local chapters? I live in Brandon FL. just outside of Tampa

I understand that the newsletter is no longer in print.

There are only like 15 of us left that like the slant and that number is dwindling so it's not likely it'll ever be in print again.

There used to be a nationwide (with a few international members) Slant Six Club of Amnerica. This folded about 12 years ago due to the rise of the internet and the decline of interest. The main resource for slant six afficionados now is this website.

There are still a few local chapters of the old SSCOA around (I can think of one in Oregon, one in CA, and one in NY), but aside from this website there really isn't any other slant six club. You can try joining other organizations such as the Wlater P. Chrysler Club or other Mopar clubs, but most likely the only comments you will get about the slant from those clubs is to pull it and replace it with an 8 (the bigger the better).

Old issues of the Slant Six News show up occasionally here and on eBay. Every once in a while somebody brings up the idea of scanning them all and putting them on the internet for everyone to read, but it never happens.

Thats a shame but OK, thanks. Id like to have the back issues, if anyone reading this has them and would like to work on a project of scanning them to make avail to other members ( for a bottom line no profit cost, Im not into profit margins ) than let me know.

I can provide references on my behalf, I have done quite a bit of similar work with the Walter P. Chrysler museum and a bit with the Detroit public library as well.

I do not mind the legwork and in my opinion the best way to attract a new younger crowd is t make the information avail. to all at a no hassle.

totally agree with 1930. I'm an IT guy and would be happy to help scan and upload. I can scan into a searchable PDF document as well (I did this with the 1970 Plymouth Service Manual already - I bought the CD and was frustrated by searching 1000+ pages .... so made it a searchable PDF and made my life a TON easier ..... if anyone wants a copy, just let me know .... ).

If anyone wants this scanning project done, I just needs copies of the docs, I'll scan em and mail back the originals.

for references, I work for the Autotrader Group (Autotrader, Kelly Blue Book, Manheim, vAuto, VINSolutions, AuctionGenius, etc) and can give you my direct name, email addy, phone # ... whatever you need

I think there are enough slant users still, between this site and FABO, to justify doing it to try and enlarge the community of active participants

I have a bunch of back issues, not a complete set, but most of them from the late 30s to the end (around 60). I am sure that between the board members and old-timers on here a complete set could be pieced together.

Now that I think about, I had just paid Jack my $20 to renew my subscription when he sold the club and everything disappeared. I never got my last issue with my old 76 Volare sedan in it or the rest of the ones I had subscribed for. Oh, well.

I never get over to FABO much. Every time I have been there it seems like it is populated mostly by people who just want to be rude and tell you to yank the slant for an 8. Blecch.

i'm only over there for the slant 6 stuff as they seem to be a little more active in discussions. I'm outa luck with the e-body sites, lol. at least the e-body crowd is supportive of me keeping the /6 though :) (mainly due to rarity and not many slant e-bodies still out there I think ..... or they are just being kind to the kid with the white jacket ...... lol)

You sound even more qualified than myself for such a project. Work that I have done in the past mainly consisted of scanning and making avail my own personal documents.

I have ( as far as I know ) the largest collection of Early Dodge Brothers ( prior to 1938 but primarily 1932 down and Graham Brother truck literature which I do my best to share with other early auto/truck enthusiast.

My role was not nearly as technical and consisted mainly scanning old/fragile literature and placing into PDF format.

I would still however enjoy helping any way I could.

Maybe you should give them another try, I only participate in the slant discussions but can say that I cannot think of one rude user on the site.

I believe there is a bit more of a younger crowd and that is transparent in some of the posts but for me that is not an issue. If I dont like what I read I just dont participate.

I think this site and that one are two great forums.

Just suggesting that you might be missing out on some fun, that is all.

the newsletters would be easy, mainly because they are usually just 8.5x11 paper stapled together - I can pull the staple and use the mass copy/scanner at work to do them automatically. this is the main reason I can volunteer to do it, it doesn't take a lot of time compared to what you were doing.

your books and literature, totally different critter to scan, you have to do them page by page .... I do not envy that task at all!!!! kudos to you for doing so, it's an arduous task that not many can appreciate.

Yes page by page, some of the lit. I dont dare to place on the scanner so digital photographs are the best avail.

I enjoy the history and discussing the same with other enthusiasts

All the issues of the Slant Six News that I have ever seen have been 8.5 x 17 sheets folded in half in book form with printing on both sides. With a nice glossy cover. Way back in the 80s, there was a Slant Six club run by Harry Aune that was the precursor to the SSCOA, and I believe that the early club put out a 8.5 x 11 stapled newsletter. But not the SSCOA.

I get my slant fix from this site. In my mind it is second to none and I won't accept any substitutes. 8)

those are doable too :) I'm happy to help if anyone wants to do it.

this is my #1 /6 site, hands down. anything I research is done here 1st. I just haven't been active because the car was in eastern WA until last week, and I'm in CO ..... so it's just been a learning and absorbing experience for the last year. she's in my garage now though .... so the fun begins :)

another thought to go here, and maybe this will help prompt the project to happen .....

do the scan project and have the 1st few available as a free 'teaser' download, and offer the full set for a donation to support this site? win-win situation ...... :)

there was a slant 6 club in central/north Jersey a few years ago, Ben used to run it. for eth life of me I cant remember Ben's last name, my son and I went to one of their gatherings, there were about 20 cars there. good people.
if everyone put their location in their profiles, we could see who is local. that would make it easier to have possible meets...
just my $.02

Chris
