Just an FYI for comparison sake.

I recently swapped my high revving 3.55's for 2.94's out of a '67 Belvedere. Of course, now highway driving is much better...

Anyway, with my A-904 and the 2.94's, I note that the rpms are about 2500 for 60 mph, at 3000 I'm running about 70-75 mph.

In my more modern 2009 CTS, with a six speed manual, 6th gear gives me 75 mph at about 2500 rpm.

So, the 2.94's aren't too bad, if you really want to lower rpms with A-904 I'd suppose the 2.76's are the way to go. Still my slant seems to "like" the 2.94's, even at low end it has plenty of power (nothing like the 3.55's though).

From this data, I would surmise that the optimum set up for my slant would be the 3.55's and a tranny with overdrive (5 speed manual would be awesome or the 6 speed from my Caddy would be terrific). That would give me fantastic low end power and drivability on the highway. Maybe someday when my ship comes in...

My Valaint was 3.55 with a 5 speed OD. Previously I had the 3.23 gears.

The 3.55 are the sweet spot . In 4th gear its what you had before....and in 5th its what you have now.

I have liked my car better with every wheel size increase. First I went from 13 to 14, then from 14 to 15. It got better ever time. I would recommend that to anyone who drives their A body.

or if you have big bolt pattern just go to 245-45-17. a somewhat standard mustang size.. not sure about clearance/ offset and back spacing on the a body but low will know.


I run these on my stock f body with 1.5 wheel spacers.

The change from 13's to 14's was dramatic (SBP). I had planned to go to 15's LBP.

That said, before I bought my '67, I was looking at buying another '67 dart two door post car in Sacramento a few years back and it had some larger rims/tires on it (strangely enough the post car resembles a mustang of the era somewhat). I forgot to check the size, but they were 17's or 18's. They looked pretty nice on there; I wish I had kept the pictures. It didn't have any rubbing/clearance issues when I test drove it. Interesting.

Does anyone have personal experience with larger-than-15" sizes on a 67-69 Dart? I assume the clearance issues are the same for these years but somebody school me if I'm wrong.

I surmise my rpm's will go down as my tire size increases, correct?

To fit a larger than 17 inch rim inside a 67-69 Dart front fender, you wil have to either run true rubber bands for tires or enlarge the wheel opening in the fender.

My brother's 74 Duster has 68 Dart front fenders on it. It has 15x7 rims on the front and is running 205-50-15 front tires. The rims have about 4 inches of backspacing (I can't remember exactly) and those were the biggest I could go and still clear the stock fender lip and frame. Maybe a narrower rims would work better, but you still will need to run a very low profile tire.

Only if you increase the overall diameter. If you switch from a 13 inch to a 15 inch rim but run a 15 inch tire with the same overall diameter as the 13 inch tire, then you will be spinning the same RPM. The advantage is a shorter sidewall for less deflection in turns and better handling.

From 13" to 14" tires was a dramatic improvement. If the same is true going from 14" to 15", then I can't wait!

My mileage with the 3.23's was about 21 mpg, with the 3.55's it dropped to 17mpg, with the 2.94's it is 24mpg. I'm running dual Weber 32/34 DFT 2bbls. I bet with 2.76's and 15" tires I could manage north of 25 mpg.
