Just want to start off by saying hi. Bought a 63 Plymouth Savoy with you guessed it a 225 slant six. It has a cracked exhaust manifold. My question is, I like the idea of the dutra duals and was wondering if it was worth doing that setup over a stock manifold if I planned on keeping the one barrel carb? I would love to do a two barrel setup but not sure the funds will be there for while. I have searched and learned a bunch already. Just haven't really found anything answering my question. Sorry about the long post.

Welcome to The Forum!

Where did your manifold crack? that might determine if you should go for the Dutra Duals (Front Manifold) :D

Single barrel is perfect for daily driving, and easy to work on if needed.

Broke right after the third runner. I believe the back half can be modified. The car will not really be daily driven. Just a fun weekend cruiser and maybe occasionally to work during the week

Lucky dog! However, be careful about driving that thing on the street. At least check your laws about impersonating a police officer. Where I live, I could get arrested if I drove a car that looked like a police car with the markings and lights on it.

From what I learned it has no state or county seal and I can't drive with the lights and siren on. Plus what department still uses these cars that someone could get confused.

I'm not saying the law makes sense, I am just saying that where I live you can get busted for even having a red or blue flashing light operating in your car. I don't know what the laws in your area are and it sounds like you know what you are doing. I was just trying to offer a friendly word of caution.

And I thank you! I do not know the laws here 100% either. So what are your thoughts on my initial question about the manifold issue?

If your exhaust manifold has cracked after the #3 runner, then I think you are a prime candidate for dutra duals. Run dual 2 inch pipes off the manifolds down to "Y" into a single 2 1/4 inch pipe. Drop back down to 2 inches after the muffler. Find a shop in town that can weld the rear manifold closed (make sure the heat riser moves freely while you have it all apart) and order a single front manifold from Mr. Dutra.

You can keep the single barrel and it will work fine. The dual exhaust will help even with the one barrel.

Awesome that is what I needed to know. I was thinking of sending my rear half to Mr. Dutra and have him work his magic on it as exhaust shops around here a pretty lame unless you "know" someone

Was it actually a police car? There are collectors, even for the low-performance cars ... and the lights and sirens are worth something as well, if you choose to sell them.

No, I'm not a collector.

No it was not an original police car. It's more of a tribute car. I did plan on selling off as much of the police stuff I can to fund other needs. I know I want/need to convert to at least a dual reservoir master cylinder. The single res master scares the hell out of me lol. Would love to put front disc on it too.
