Hello all, new to the forum but have owned a few slant six cars over the years - did the header/cam/offy/holly390 mod on two. Thinking of getting an old 1940's Dodge truck like a D100 and wanting a slant six just to be different ;-) Won't be towing anything, but would like both torque and something interesting looking under the hood. Thinking of three intake options - feel free to chime in if you can think of something else.
Obviously the offy 4bbl with vacuum 390 CFM 4 bbl is a known quantity. HOWEVER, I like the looks of the 2 x 1bbl offy manifold better. Will a significant amount of torque be lost going with the shorter runner dual 1 bbl?

Third option would be an aluminum super six manifold (obviously in bare aluminum) with a 2bbl.

All three will have headers and exhaust heat, but don't need too much heat as I'm in New Mexico. I've done this header with exhaust heat mod before - works well and I was worried about cracking - nope.

A cam would come later, or maybe not until the engine needed rebuilding.

Ideas? Comments? Criticisms? Witticisms?
Thanks!
Tom

Another option for the pot, you can machine the 2X1 Offy intake to use 2 Carter BBD's or the like.

Personally, I am a die hard Offy/390 Holley guy. :D

Think I'm answering my own question here unless somebody has another idea. Without a doubt the Offy 2 x 1bbl manifold looks "tricker," however the concern is finding two relatively matched 1bbl carbs that would be suitable and aren't so horribly worn that the throttle plate shaft doesn't have so much clearance between it and the throttle body that so much non-metered air flows through the gap that the idle gets all hosed up. Nobody ever seems to mention this but many old VW beetle motors had so much slop between the shaft and body that the car could not be made to idle correctly.

So, 390 CFM holly vacuum secondary 4 bbl carb and offy manifold. There's no worry about linkage between carbs, idle issues, mixture issues, etc.

Could somebody recommend a modern and affordable 1 bbl replacement where a pair of them could go on the offy 2x 1bbl? Anybody have any experience with the 2 x 1bbl setup? Again, would love to run that but would rather drive the car than monkey with carbs - been there done that with a bug and a pair of 40mm dellortos.

I have the Offy 2 x 1 that I'd like to use TBI. I think that could easily be matched and doesn't need manifold heat as much as two carbs.

There are a few guys that use the dual Offy intake with webers sourced from the Stovebolt six company, brand new carbs, really cheap as well and apparently works a treat.
