Yes there is a small button on the side of the switch, look at one on line it is on the other side of the wire plug.

^^^ As above...get access to the switch, push and hold the button, and then pull out the knob and the shaft with it. It might be a bit hard or does not want to come out; if so, release and repush the llittle button and try again 'til knob & shaft pull out.

Works this way for a lot of older cars; my '70 Rancheor was the same way.

Thanks guys! That would explain when I looked at a photo of one on Rock Auto, it looked odd to me. I was wondering where the shaft was. I will look again at one for the button. Then of course crawl under my dash, and try and spot the button.

Just got my carburetor back, nice clean rebuilt. He did a really good job as usual. However, I still have a sputtering going on and Rich condition. Almost seems like its missing. If I rev it up high, smooths out, but you can still tell it is running rough.. I have no idea I am very confused. I pulled 1 spark plug wire at a time, and it did what it was supposed to. I don't know at this point. At this point what to do. at idle, you can literally hear it's spitting out the tailpipe. About every 3 seconds.

Is your PCV valve passing air?

Quick Test:
Disconnect PCV valve's hose at carburetor and see if engine leans out. Place finger on PCV valve's tap at carburetor; is there suction or not?

I pulled that hose of the carb where the pcv hose goes too. And it freaked out. But...I don't seem to have a pcv. I dont know what it is. I can take a photo. Its odd looking.
I ordered a set of wires tonight. Well for an Aspen slant 6. They didn't have it for my car, he said they would be the same.

Could be Valve adjustment,
Burnt Valve,
Points Bad,
Cap / Rotor,
Or Plugs Need cleaned / Replaced.

I got a new cap and rotor tonight, wires will be in tomorrow. I am changing the points tomorrow too.
I only watched you do the adjustment once. I still don't get the idea. You made it look easy.
I sure hope it's not a burnt valve.
I don't know how to do stuff like that.
You will see it on the craiglist real quick!...

you would be foolish to do that sir; like with the valiant

I can help you out.

If it is a burnt Valve.. So what... you wanted to get some big valves in that head anyway at Broughers.. They would take care of it then ... You could have hardened seats put in too!

Greg

I know Greg, I said that out of frustration, and being nervous!
Oh yeah, the Valiant, ya had to bring that up.. That still bothers me!!>... I miss that car.
I will do all the tune up stuff tomorrow, and report back.
If all still fails, I will do a compression test, and see what it tells. With the sputtering at the tailpipe, I keep thinking a bad valve, but was hoping not!
I wanna drive it now...
But, if it needs head work, then I will be asking advice from you, and of course, doing a lot more stuff over the winter, and then bring it out in the spring with more horsepower!.... :D
Thanks for offering the help.
Let me know if dad drops off the tab. Thanks again!

Freaked out????
Did you also drop some acid on the head?

Not helpful lingo.

After pulling PCV hose from carburetor one would expect the idle to increase, and mixture to become leaner as PCV is a controlled vacuum leak that the carburetor is calibrated to take into account. If that line is not connected to a PCV valve, or valve is not moving, rather it is stuck, or crankcase has no way to have fresh air enter into it to mix with combustion leftovers and be sucked into carburetor to be burned, the mixture the engine sees will be wrong, and most likely be rich at idle.

I should have used a better term. I will take photo of whats there. It doesn't look like a normal pcv. I dont know what it is. When I tried to pull it off of the adapter it is on, it wouldnt come off.
When I pull the pcv hose off at the carb, the idle became very rough. I will do it again today. But as I recall, I thought the idle just dropped slightly and was very rough.

Okay, while waiting on my wires to arrive at the parts store, I did some tests.

First

I pulled the plugs on at a time and did a compression test. Starting at number one cylinder.
1-125
2-125
3-125
4-125
5-125
6-125
It's all perfectly even all the way back?? Are the valves okay then?

Also the plugs were all clean, for except number 5&6, were a bit rich.

Second

I pulled one wire at a time, while running.
I did notice 1&2 wire did not change the motor pitch at all. Nothing happened!
I didn't catch that yesterday!
The other 3/4/5/6, when those wires were pulled, the motor was running rough, and of course, chugging.

Third

Also, I pulled the hose off the carb for the PCV, and the idle jumped up high, and got rough.

Fourth

I see there are Autolite plugs number #66 in there.
I don't know if their correct, but I will change them. I don't like autolite. Gaps were allright.

Here's the photo, of what the pcv is supposed to be.
Looks like an old original part. But don't look like a pcv to me? And I pulled on it, can't get it out.

Thanks for the chuckle :)
