65 valiant (225) exhaust is blowing black out a little bit, I leaned the carb out a couple times, still black though... Any advice is appreciated (it also seems to go through gas a little too quickly?)

Black smoke is typically too much fuel, and running rich. There is much written about this here, and you will likely get more detailed responses.

Here are just a few:
1. power valve in carb is blown or defective.
2. Enrichment rods are bent and stuck in the raised position.
3. Choke is stuck on.
4. Float is set too high.
5. Jets are too big.
6. Carb may be too big for engine.
7. Float needle valve is defective.

More ideas and fixes will show up in time I am sure. Most likely, choke is stuck. Least likely, Jets are too big. All others are middle of the list. A carb rebuild will fix all but number 5 and six. Choke sticking simply requires clean and lube of external linkage, or possibly replacement of choke stove element.

Sam

What carb is it and what did you already do to "lean it out"?

It's got a 1bbl carter carb (rebuilt from eBay) it's running rich, not going through oil, I'm gonna put new spark plugs in it and lean the carb again this weekend and go from there, Thanks for the input guys
