I'm wanting to upgrade my 65 dart from 13" steel rims to either 14" steel rims or mags. Can somebody tell me firstly, if the original "dog dish" hubcaps on my 13" rims will fit onto the late 60's 14" small bolt steel rims and secondly if I'll have any clearance problems with the drums on the front?
If alls ok then I'll search for the 14" 5x4 steel wheels (so it looks original, but with bigger tires and effective higher gearing), otherwise I think I'll go for either ralley's or Cragar 5 spokes?

cheers
ricki

Welcome to the board!

I'm pretty sure all A-body wheels have the same hubcap mounting provisions. Your dogdish hubcaps should fit 14" wheels no problem. I can't see why you would have problems with your drum brakes clearing either. The only time wheels have clearance problems with drum brakes is when they are mags or something with a big mounting hub that interferes with the drum brake balance weights. You should have no problems with steel wheels.

Yep, hubcaps interchange. I have a pair of 14X4.5" rims in WI I could send you in the summer, but they should be around in SoCal at the yards.

Great, thanks Patrick and Lou. Steels it is then. I'll hunt around for a set and if I have no luck Lou, I'll get back in touch.

The factory offered a steel wheel in 4.5 and 5.5 width so keep your eyes open, if you can find the wider 5.5 steel wheels, grab them.

Yep, 5.5s are better and I only have the 4.5s. I also have a pair of Rallyes (14X5.5) that I'd be willing to sell - maybe even a full set for the right price...

There are no more, i've taken them all!
Just kidding, sorry i couldn't resist....

Yes, the 4.5" steelies are ALL over the place. Ecology in Wilmington has a beat 66 Dart with a set just coolin' it in the trunk. The 5.5's are getting tougher to find but they do show up from time to time. There's another 1/2 sale coming up, so i'll keep my eyes peeled for ya homey.

I'm running 70 dart 340 rims {14 inch 5.5?}.on my 63 valiant 2 dr. post. paid $100 for them but man,do they look great !! U may have to raise the front torsion bars just a tad ,depending on how tall a tire u run...I painted them gloss black and use chrome lug nuts for a mean look !!

Thanks all, I'm going to hunt around for a set of steel 5.5's. Although I must be spending too much time at work and not enough time with the car, as I thought I had the "dog dish" type hub caps with separate trim rings underneath, but now that I look closely they are a one piece hub cap that covers the inside of the wheel (almost fully from lip to lip, they do look like a smaller hubcap with a beauty ring, but are definitely one piece with the logo in the middle), so I guess I will have to change hub caps afterall !

JYH, please let me know if you came across a set of 5.5's locally.

JohnnySix, thats pretty much the look I want but with some small hub caps. I really dont know what they are worth, but $100 sounds ok to me for the set of 5.5's based on the fact that they are harder to find???

I'll check out the ecology's hopefully next weekend and I'll goto the Long Beach Performance swapmeet this sunday, I dont expect to find anything there but you never know (I need to put in some extra hours at work on sunday and its closeby). I'll post back if I find a set.

Just as a side note this is a great board. I've already bought parts from several members and recieved a lot of advice and knowlege from the people, posts and searching the archives and articles.
cheers
ricki

Depending on the look u desire u could get 14inch 5.5 for the rears and 14inch 4.5 on the front, as the 4.5's are a dime a dozen,,,.saving a little dough !!! GOOD luck !!!!!
