got some time in on the secondaries. knew the vte was gonna help it out so i pulled the 86's i had in there and threw in some 80's. for some reason the vte on the secondaries is pushing gas out of the boosters or somewhere else but my cruise afr is back to 10. looks like im just going to have to keep the 86's in there or try a different setup on the vte in the back. ill try cutting off the flare and see what that does and go from there. while testing i turned by boost controller up in an attempt to get 10psi out of it. apparently it was to much for the block off plate i had made. it spit the remflex gasket out the side and now i have a pretty big exhaust leak. happened to be looking at the gauge when it happened. was in second gear running up through the rpm, spooled to 5psi and climbing and it dropped off. so now i get to take it all back apart and figure out something to use as a block off plate. think im going to use a similar design to what i dad but elongate it on the sides so i can bend it over to add some rigidity to it. may just make another the same dimensions and weld them together. or drill and tap some holes all around it to make sure it cannot lift. not sure yet. got an old set of headers so ill be making a turbo header some time after October. might just weld the plate to the manifold with my mig welder and hope it holds for a while.

does anyone know if header wrap is re usable? never heard of anyone taking it off after the heat cycles, not sure if it is just going to fall apart or not.

I think it's definitly the super spread out bolt pattern that's the problem. Drilling and tapping more holes might be a better bet, or making the plate thicker so the intake pushes down on it a little?

either gonna drill holes or use more metal to make it more rigid. i have feelers out right now trying to find someone local that welds cast iron. the hyperpac doesnt come close to the exhaust manifold. got about 1/4" in between the top of the bolts in the top of the exhaust and the intake.

If you are just using the 3 bolt holes on the exh manifold to hold down the plate, I would say you need at least 3/8" steel, probably 1/2". Or, drill multiple small holes as you say.

there is no room between the manifolds for that. maybe 1/4 but not much more. already had to grind down the front single bolt for clearance. i got a couple ideas. ill post them when i get it out. taking a break from the car for today. getting my ducks in a row. supposed to be really nice in the next couple days.

tore it apart just now. came apart easier then it went together. header wrap had a noticeable crunch to it. turns out it was worse then i thought.

just a slight leak. now for the fun part of figuring out how to keep it from happening again. havent been able to find anywhere local that can weld cast. upon inspection i think drilling holes is out too. there doesnt look like enough material there to drill and hold. ill figure something out.

has anyone tried welding cast with a regular mig welder? what were the results? i dont need this to last forever just a month or so. some tuning runs and a few runs down the track.

Maybe drill and tap some 8-32 screws about .75 apart ( I know you said you did not want to ) and use those to come tight against the surface with another plate and gasket .

not positive but pretty sure if you preheat the metal with a torch it would stick with a mig welder? I've welded some thick stuff but not cast.

ok so i got something that i think is going to work. welded another plate to the one i had and welded another smaller plate to those to try to block off the opening. the thought was that if i could get it sealed for the most part with just the plates then the gasket would just be that little extra. being that the gasket failed i didnt want to put to much weight on that holding again. im getting tired of taking this thing apart every couple weeks to fix or do something.

<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/Mobile%20Uploads/20140911_160807_zpsiidpka15.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20140911_160807_zpsiidpka15.jpg"/>

<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/Mobile%20Uploads/20140911_160751_zpssv2vz0gw.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20140911_160751_zpssv2vz0gw.jpg"/>

<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/Mobile%20Uploads/20140911_182308_zpsd5shdael.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20140911_182308_zpsd5shdael.jpg"/>

there was only one spot that looked like it had sufficient meat to screw through without breaking anything so i pre drilled and threw some self tappers in there. didnt have any real bolts and i was losing the light.
<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/Mobile%20Uploads/20140911_192952_zpsczp24vbt.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20140911_192952_zpsczp24vbt.jpg"/>

then i figured since i had the stuff out already why not so i threw a couple more in there for good measure.

<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/Mobile%20Uploads/20140911_193736_zps1cahb1yg.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20140911_193736_zps1cahb1yg.jpg"/>

so i got it back together. its tight. hopefully it holds for a while. not gonna mess with this anymore. next step from here when this goes is a turbo header. cant wait for that kinda fun. i can only imagine. might have to block out some profanity when that time comes around.

i didnt put quite that many in, didnt want to make to many weak spots in the manifold to keep it from cracking.

thats the process for welding cast, you have to heat the area you are going to weld to the point of it glowing and use an arc welder with nickle rod to weld it. i dont think they make nickle wire. if they do it is almost certainly not flux core which is what i use to weld. i dont have a torch either.

if its not raining tomorrow im throwing it all back together. hopefully i still have clearance between the manifolds. hopefully. then im gonna play with my boost controller and shoot for 12psi. cant wait.

It will hold. I mig welded my cast pipe to start with. I used the bbq and a propane torch to heat it. When done welding, I had charcoal already going and put that on it and let it cool gradually with the charcoal eventually burning out on its own.
