This started a few weeks ago. Cooled starts rough and once warm runs fine. Once HOT engine surges ONLY in gear. If I place the car in neutral it stops. I just replaced my alternator, thermostat. I checked for shorts on wires for the temp sensor, and replaced the volt regulator. But, agai n this only happens once the engine is hot not cold or warm. I can drive about two miles and it begins. my next thought was to change the trans fluid and filter.



I was just told to look for a vacuum leak on the carb. base to use break cleaner and spray around the carb to see if it idles up.

Looking for any helpful hints.

Please NEVER NEVER USE BRAKE CKEANER where is going to be combusted! Chlorinated whatever the rest of the compound 's name is will turn into a deadly chlorine gas derivative not unlike what was use in WWI... Just a whiff of the combustion product will cause nerve damage.

Instead use carburetor cleaner or water when locating vacuum leaks.
