Is the Park Lock cable for a '60 Valiant the same as all other years that use the TorqueFlight 3-speed PB auto trans?

Cables vary by length, i.e., by vehicle application. '60-'64 A-body should be directly installable in your '60. If you can't find a good used one, you can get a new one, but expect to pay!

Thanks Dan. You are correct, the replacements are nice and original-appearing, but certainly pricey.

I'm thinking I need to replace this cable on my '60 because there's approximately a 6" long section of the rubber sheathing that surrounds the internal metal skeletal cable that has been torn away at some point in the past. It's at the point that leads into the cable entry into the rear of the trans and at some point over the past 7 years, it was unacceptably 'gooped' by my previous 'mechanic' with some kind of silicone sealer that has melted and become nasty-looking. I never even knew he did it. Has the appearance of melted candle wax or like a bad plastic surgery experiment. Couldn't believe it as soon as I saw it.

I would normally try to repair the cable using a length of fuel injection line, clamps and some Ultra Black RTV, but I don't believe a repair will work on this location of the cable because the rubber sheath is gone leading into the trans.

Oh well. I guess replacing a cable once every 54 years is ok. Would you know of any other way to repair the cable sheathing or is it done for?

Sounds done for. Replace it and never think about it again. You might check with Pat Blais to see if he has a good used.

Finally got the Park Lock cable out of the 60.

CHRYSLER, you've GOT to be KIDDING ME!!!

The 1960 park lock cable is 6-9" LONGER than '62+. I wouldn't call that 'directly installable'. I will try but that shorter length may cause issues.

'61 is probably same as '60 since the dash design is the same.

:(

I may have a good used one...
What is the total length you need?

Looks like the original cable is coming in at between 66 1/8" and 66 1/2" tip to tip.

I could be wrong about the 61 being the same. From engine bay pics I've seen of 61 Valiants, the park lock cable is grouped together with other cables and wires and exits the firewall at a slightly lower location than the 60, which has a separate round hole, cut higher up on the firewall for just the park lock cable to exit.

Drat…another first-year-'60 difference. :-(

A heads up that the shorter cable actually did install in the '60 without issue.

Worth noting there is no slack at all though. The original with it's longer length would allow the cable to snake through the firewall hole, down and clip into the under-floor clips easily while reaching the trans. The shorter cable doesn't have enough length to clip into place (it's a bit taut), but does reach end to end, and stays out of the way of the exhaust pipe (no more melted cable jackets please).

Success.

Just speculation here, but I wonder if Chrysler used a longer park cable in 1960 Valiants because it was the first year of the A-body? They might have used the same cable from a larger car until the next model year when they shortened it to remove the slack.
