hello,
i currently have a 70 block with drool tube head and a mechanical cam. i was thinking of changing over all of my components (rocker arms, push rods, water pump, fuel pump, oil pump, cam and lifters, drool head and timing set) onto a hydraulic cam, cast crank block?

i basically want to stick all of my existing components onto a later style block. is this possible? can i stick a mechanical cam into a hydraulic cam block? are the cam bearings the same? what about the timing set? are the water pumps the same? is the oil pump (6 bolt) the same?

a year ago i put a cam and timing set with a 67 head onto this motor and it ran great for awhile. but i have come to discover that i have a ring problem and am losing compression. i have this later style block sitting out back with hardly any ring ridge and a decent set of pistons. i was thinking of sticking new rings and bearings into the later motor and changing all of my known good existing parts onto that block.

can we do it?

Yes, all the parts will interchange. The only caveat to that is if you are switching from a pre-stepped rearmost rocker shaft bolt head to a post-stepped rearmost rocker arm shaft bolt head, but if you are keeping your current drool tube head then you can swap away. The blocks are idnetical, the cam bearings are identical.

See her: http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46756

Swap away.
