so the turbo gods have smiled upon me. found a replacement turbo. two actually. got an hx35w and a wh1c, both for $125. both in good shape but the hx has a tiny bit of shaft play. im pretty sure some oil pressure will eat it up though. gonna rebuild it just to be safe and to learn something new. i like knowing the things i use inside and out. these turbos should spool a little later then the little guy i had on there but will be able to test the limits of my head gasket. i wound up buying a replacement last week, the same one that took a crap on me. gonna throw it on for now. ill get a pic for size comparison when i take the bad turbo off. got a car show on Nov 1st that i really enjoy going to so i just wanted to make it to that with a running car. been searching ebay and craigslist diligently waiting for a hx35 in my price range. so after the 1st of next month im gonna throw one on and see what it can do. im giddy right now, i cant believe i found those turbos for that price. Holset baby!

you and me both. im giddy with anticipation of that first spool. i should make more power at the same boost level. gonna use the wastegate actuator from the chinese turbo on the holset. the h1c i have has a 12cm2 (.89AR) turbine housing so the spool should be only a little later then the .63 ar china turbo which came in around 2200-2400 all in by 2900-3200. cant wait to see what happens. gonna try to find a 4 speed and some drag radials or slicks. should have something to report by the end of next week.

the h1c spun pretty good but there was a slight hitch at one point. got a rebuild kit in the mail today and tore into it. found some crud in the exhaust side seat of the "pisont ring". cleaned it out put new berings, thrust and journal, new seals and put it all back together. spins like a champ now. no hitch of any kind. still waiting on a couple more parts to make the swap.

in case you wondered what a turbo looked like taken apart.
