That makes more sense, although the RPM on the upshift may plummet more due to vehicle weight and profile, it should be fairly close to your calc.

Since the Getrag is for the LA engine, I also figure you're going to use an LA flywheel and egg out one hole so it all fits up correctly, although it's too bad you can't just use an adaptor on the NP bellhousing and keep the bigger clutch and swap fewer parts.

I'll keep watching this one, take pics so you can add an article once it's all in and shook down.
It's gonna be a few years. I haven't much chance of leaving Illinois for about 5 years or so and I can't really get started until after I'm gone. However, I can work out the engineering of this thing, which gives me something to do to keep my mind off the fact I hate this place.

I'm curious why I can't use the current flywheel.

It (starter, clutch, and linkage) fits the LA engine, I have the exact same clutch which is in the LA 318 and there's an 11 inch clutch for the Getrag 238, as well. Both should be 143 tooth.

What am I missing?

Just wanted to make sure you had the right flywheel, up through the early 80's some of the NP equipped trucks could still get the other flywheel and direct drive starter which will not be compatible with the setup.

Ahhh ok.

I've also decided the NSG370 is a better option than the Getrag 238. A little deeper 1st gear, and it appears to almost perfectly match the np435 for length (including the bellhousing and t-case adapter), though both a probably ok. From pictures, it appears the G238 is longer.

It may need either the 130 or 143 tooth flywheel.

Oh, also, the G238 and NSG370 have integral bellhousings. The NSG370 is also used in the crossfire, but with different linkage and bellhousing.

Has anyone had a machine shop cut the manifold down a bit and braze on a turbo flange? For the most part, brazing is the only reliable way to do this, as welding cast will generally result in it cracking.

Even better, if you did, you got pictures?
