OK, getting ready to go racing this March at the local 1/8 mile track. My original plan was to run a big block 400 in my Belvedere. However, it is an original slant six car and my thinking is to see how far I can go with the six. I have been a Mopar guy practically since birth. My last race car was a big block 65 Fury. Lots of fun with that one but had to retire it for something lighter. That is where the Belvedere comes in. This will be a purpose built street/strip car. So far it is essentially stock slant six, 1bbl, automatic. The car itself is going to get lightweight seats, fiberglass hood, no back seat, etc. It will basically resemble a 65 A990 car. To date, it has new E body rear springs, 3.55 Sure-Grip rear and A body front disk brakes. All steel body and factory bench seat interior. Car weighs in at 3200 lbs as is.

as far as engine mods go...
I have a head shaved 0.120, a recurved distributor with a hotter coil, new stock oil pump and fuel pump. Still using the OEM 1 bbl.
I will install a super six intake and carb along with a ported exhaust manifold and full 2 1/4 exhaust. I also have a hotter cam on order.
If needed, I have a 2 2bbl intake I could eventually swap on.

Shaving .120, do you know what that will put your compression at?

The Mopar book says .090 is worth 1.5 points so I am guessing that it will bump it up 2.0 points. A 1965 FSM lists compression at 8.4 : 1 so I am guessing that it will be 10.4 : 1 more or less. It does ping just barely on 89 octane fuel. (timing is around 8-10 advanced).
I was given the head already shaved and only put it on because my OEM head had some bad guides/seals. This head has had a valve job and was shaved. I got it because the shop went out of business (owners retired).
Track opens in March so I won't have any ET's until then.

Alright, well I'm going to guess that even tho the FSM says 8.4 you have somewhere around 8.0. My late 70's motor was also advertised as 8.4, and it was really somewhere around 8.1, or 7.9ish with a Fel-Pro gasket. You should probably measure, just to be sure :D

That will give you a little time to tweek on it, before the slant six race, in May, at Mason-Dixon, in Hagerstown MD.

I'll have the two bbl on it by end of Jan. I should have the cam by then and install sometime in Feb. I just received the aluminum seat mounts and I'm waiting on some lightweight bucket seats. Still running on some steel rims (15x5 front and 15x7 rear) but I have some aluminum rims available to try (Convu-pro) but will eventually install some Torque Thrust rims from my Fury drag car.

Yes , like Charlie said! Mason Dixon Dragway is just about 2 hours away from you. Plan on coming up and racing with us in May! We'd love to have you!

OK, so according to the slant six rules I would run in C/G class (3200 lb car plus a 200lb driver (oof).
I would be happy to run a 14sec 1/4 mile in this. Looks like the record is 12.08. Holy crap!

The class rules are only for people who are looking to break a record. In our series, all cars run in one group, and we pull names out of a hat to see who you would race. There are plenty of street cars/ trucks as well as race cars. you will not be alone and I am sure you would have a great time. Our Slant 6 guys are great!

That sounds good to me. I am a bracket racer from way back. Always had fun.

That's about where my Duster weighs in at +/-...

Physical measurements are necessary in calcing your CR since mopar's numbers were all over the place in the 60's (1963 truck motor I got had a really low CR)...so shaving .120 off the head with a Felpro gasket woudl be closer to shaving .080 off the head making it in the honest 8:1 range...if you went to 9:1 or better on the stock cam you'd know from the pinging...

Best guesses with the 3.55 rear gears, would be about 17's with the 2 barrel assuming you cleaned up the runners for a little better flow....if you put together a 10:1 engine and o/s valves with a 270 duration cam built toward the torque curve 16's will be on the horizon...more engine or less engine and more boost will yield faster results...but in our group fun should be the first priority.

Glad to have you on the board and glad to see a real classic B-body stay slanted... 8)
