I Began to run an External O/P on ruster after the cam/ pump gear failure while idling in tech at Clay City in 2013.

I dont see any reason it cant work on the street - And it does not need to be a dry sump system for it to work.

Mine is still a wet sump, just have an external pump.

If you have a belt guide on the mandrel (which mine does) and make some sort of belkt guide for the Pump gear ( i have never seen these, but I see no reason some one couldnt make one .. and take you time in the setup and positioning of it I think it could work.

I would think that most GT and Prototype 24 hours of Lemons and 12 Hours of sebring and 24 hours of daytona use an external pump ( probably with a dry sump) If they can run it I see no reason a street car cant.

I think Terry Littlejohn uses an homebuilt external pump.

It might even use a power steering pump...

Years ago Smokey Yunik used a pump from an automatic transmission. That was before you could purchase the purpose built pumps.

I have ran a simple (stock car performance) external wet sump system on my race car for close to 15 years without any problems and it is still working just as good as it did the first year. Its no problem to have 75 psi (or more if you want) at higher rpms, and idle at 55 psi. After two or three back to back pump gear failures I was convinced it was time to change. It was one of my best decisions. If you are looking for piece of mine its the ticket. Just saying. :D

I bought the pump for ruster used on eBay.. I would not pay more than $350 for a good single stage unit.
