I have begun looking into options in case I need to replace my Hussey copper gasket when I pull the motor apart very soon.

I just called Flatout gaskets .100 thick is gonna cost me $281.22 to my door! yikes the Hussey was only around 100 bucks.

Do we have other suppliers that make copper head gaskets for the slant?

Thanks, Kev

I've designed and made a variety of copper gaskets for the slant including a combo intake/exhaust with larger ports to accomodate a ported head and a big bore head gasket. There is just very little interest in them it appears unfortunately. Why so thick?

My guess is that's how his head was setup , then he needed less compression to live under Boost?

Is there any Compression on the Copper Head gaskets?

I am Setting My Engnine up for the Aussie / Permaseal Big Bore Gasket Which should be Compressed at 0.040"

I forgot that you make thesecoper ones quite honestly..

I might take you up on the Copper one if I can get the big bore size and 0.040" for compressed thickness..

The aussie Gaskets are only $20 AUD, but you have to buy 10 of them to make it a viable option when you toss in Shipping...

We'll Chat..

Are you coming to the banquet next week Scott?

Greg

Greg is right I'm using the weisco/k1 combo and I used that thick hunk of copper to bring the compression back down to 8.6:1

You can make a copper head gasket?? I would be very interested if that's the case.

Kev

Greg, it will just be a roll of the dice if I can make it up next weekend. A bad weather front is coming into my area at the end of next week and is bringing some snow with it. I'm only about 2 hrs. south of Pigeon Forge, so everyone that is going should watch the weather and make some calls before driving in from too far out.

I can get the copper head gaskets in .040", so that won't be a problem.

I don't actually make them myself, I design and create a 3D model and have any of the top shelf companies that do make them make them to my specs and other criteria based on my design model. So what they make for me becomes my proprietary design and product that can't don't/can't offer to anyone else.

If Scott can't help you, I know these suppliers have done slant gaskets.

Not to get anyones hopes up, but I am waiting right now for a reply from a race Engine builder who is trying to get us a MLS gasket made for our slant 6. I know it has fallen through a couple times before, but our builder seemed hopeful that it could be done. I already dropped off the 3.66 bore gasket to him, and he is drawing it up and then sending it to Cometic for pricing. If this goes through you could get any thickness you want in a gasket that could go up to 15 to 1 CR and suffer harsh abuse. It probably could be easily adapted to the smaller aluminum engine size.

I should have information before the baquet if you can wait that long. I will keep you posted.

Rick

Rick, I can also get an MLS head gasket as well. I just haven't seen much discussion for one so I haven't mentioned it and copper is still the ultimate for extreme applications for turbos and nitrous.

Scott, I had no idea you were able to get them. There have been several discussion about them over the years especially if one could be used for the aluminum engine. They all seemed to fall through due to initial costs. You are right for extreme turbo and nitrous applications copper is probably best but from what we were told for a N/A engine the MLS was a superb gasket and should perform great and not have the leakage problems of copper

Were you able to get prices on the MLS ones?

Rick

Rick, I just hate seeing you guys send your money halfway around the world for products that can be had right here in the US and made by the most top shelf US performance companies in the world. So I have partnered up with many of them over the last 20 years to be able to provide them.

The cost is going to be dependent on the gasket thickness, so a standardized thickness will have to be settled on as to what the Slant guys want. Keep in mind that a .060" thick gasket can easily cost twice what a .040" gasket costs in an MLS design. So the thinner the better as far as costs go.

Pierre,

Thanks for posting. It will be nice to get a look at one of those. Hard to believe it is a real MLS gasket for that money. Looks like more of a standard design to me.

I will be interested to see if a real MLS can materialize from any source. So far I have seen no concrete evidence that this can happen, but Rick's source sounds promising. I would like to run a bit higher boost w/o going to a finicky copper gasket, and build a performance aluminum engine someday... Anything I build I would intend to drive across the country, race it, then drive back.

Slant on,

Lou

Your right Lou, that is not a true MLS gasket as first developed by Cometic. Many companies since its release have jumped on the band wagon and also claim to offer an MLS version of gaskets which is sorta deceitful. The only similarity these other brands have to this claim is that yes, they offer a layered style of head gasket, but it does not compare in quality or function in anyway to the Cometic MLS brand, which uses stainless steel as the metal that is layered in its design along with a superior composition layer compared to the Victor shown that uses just plain steel that is less superior. A bone stock OEM composition head gasket from 30 years ago is in a sense an MLS style of gasket design, in that it uses multiple layers of material sandwiched alternately to make it. So they play on the word MLS to confuse you into thinking it is one in the same as a true MLS brand. Just for comparison, a true Cometic brand MLS head gasket for the Chevy inline 6 cylinder costs around $130 dollars, and one for a Slant will no doubt cost just as much if not more because it is about twice as wide as a Chevy head and as long.
