Just curious, what is the weight savings for running an aluminum block vs the cast iron block?

...and why hasn't some company put out an aftermarket aluminum head for the slant...there are so many out there for the small block (and big block) V8's.

Here we go again.  This is the merry-go-round that never stops!   Whoooa I'm getting dizzy!

I'm not making fun of you! This has just been discussed to death and we are no closer to an aftermarket head than 10 years ago.

Rick

PS. If Lou wins the lottery, I think this is the first thing on his list.

Yeah at $10K per head there's a real popular market for them...
for that price a guy could make a really nice blown 451...that was very streetable....

You can check in the articles section on the article on the aluminum block build...although the draw back is the amount of block prep for so little overbore....

If your looking for an inline six Mopar ally head engine you could grab an Aussie Hemi six and the CHI alloy head assembly at $2900 Aus list....these guys do works of art...cast and machined here down under and have a flawless reputation.Spoke to them once when I bought some 3v V8 heads from them and mentioned the Slant Alloy heads....I got the distinct impression of "never again" after the Hemi head, way too small a market even for these guys who would be considered enthusiasts as much as trying to run a business. There's AFD over here as well,Great guy, does good stuff, cast in china I believe, blue oval man all the way and there's a few guys casting alloy heads and blocks for the Aussie Holden V8's.....can't see any of them entertaining making a slant head. They have all gone though lots of pain to get it right, trying to find someone to bankroll and develop a head for a market like the slant six is going to be tough, but hey,it's all been discussed before and I'm sure it will come up again.

If anyone can help raise the $30-40k of startup cost, then I will be happy to pursue this project.

After that cost, anyone really interested and not smoking crack should be happy to pay $2500-3000 for a complete ready-to-run aluminum head.

That gives you an idea of what is required, and why it has not happened yet.

All the best,

Lou

Because science has yet to give us the molecular transporter, the food replicator, the warp drive, the holodeck, the photon torpedo, the hyperdrive, the cloaking device, the wiring that improves with age, or the 2015-technology aluminum slant-6 cylinder head for $400.

I want all these things in a vehicle powered by a slant six, particularly an extended 250 chassis van, AND I want it to get 30 MPG in the city and do 0-60 in 3 seconds. And it has to have AC. And cost less than $3k.
