Dan, why not sheet metal heat shield? It reflects some heat, and absorbs heat but also dissipates it quickly. Mine is Al.

As far as sheet metal choices go, steel absorbs heat more slowly than Aluminum, but also dissipates it more slowly. Both provide a physical barrier to block radiating and convective heat from the engine/manifolds.

I suppose a high temp polymer would be even better, like PEEK or something akin to that. PEEK melts at 662 degrees F.

a 12" x 12" x 1/8" sheet of PEEK costs $285.00, while the same size sheet of aluminum costs $20, steel even less.
