Thanks very much for putting the time and effort onto these updates Sam...I'm very keen to hear how you have progressed with this setup. I'm looking at this system for a project as well. Like you say, there is very little on the internet about this system except for company generated info...keep up the good work.!!

You are welcome Steve. It actually helps me to write down my experiences. This is kind of a form of journaling for me. I am happy it helps others. I have received private messages encouraging me to share is the work progresses. I am sorry it has taken so long. I thought it was going to be on the road before New Years. Nobody in the Northeast thought it was going to get so cold this winter.

I am going out now to play with it and see what I can make happen.

Sam

After I got the battery situation at least partially worked out it was 7:30 and cold. I had unhooked the fast idle solenoid earlier, and once it was running the lights behaved as expected while sitting still. The actual test drive will take place later. Warm weather is on its way and it will be light later and later. If the speedo works as predicted now it should work as advertized.

Sounds looks a pretty poor electronic design to be so sensitive to induced pulses. It might be looking for edges (that would be partcularly touchy) or any short pulse from the engage/disengage switch. You could perhaps put a mild RC filter on that GV unit line to keep the shorter pulses out. (And BTW, I spent 15 years in electronic design...)

It also kinda depends on the controls technology; the newer 3v and 1.8V logic does not have the noise margin of the 5V logic.

If you get crazy enjoying the ride, head south towards Waynesboro VA.....

Success!. It works, but not without just a bit of melodrama. I started the Dart an hour ago and took it for a drive. When I first backed out of the garage the lights were doing crazy things, when the green light indicating it was in overdrive came on. I was about to pull back in the garage when I remembered the classic computer fix and turned it on and off a few times. That seemed to "fix" it. I went back and forth a few times in the driveway and finally decided it was going to stay "fixed" and took it for a spin. The speedometer needs to be calibrated, so speed is pretty guessworthy at this point, but it shifted through the 1-2-3 speeds normally and when the tach hit 2 grand the green light came on the OD shifted it into "4th". That is supposed to happen at 47 mph, so the speedo must not be too far off. The rpm dropped to 1,500. that is lower than I expected, so I suspect either I slowed down a bit when it shifted into OD or I was guesstimating the rpm before shift.

It all worked like a charm. When I slowed down below 20 mph it shifted back out of OD. When I got to 1000 rpm in 4th I pulled it back into 2nd and it stayed in over and the rpm went up a good amount. I tried the same maneuver again and this time clicked the shifter button to take it out of OD when it dropped to 1000 rpm in 4th, and it went into 3rd under. which was just a bit higher rpm yet than 2nd over. That was a rougher shifting operation, so letting the 904 shift is smoother than manual GV. So there are two options for finding the optimal rpm at cruise. I have not tried the manual sequence yet. I want a little more time behind the wheel with it to acquaint myself with its nature.

I am beginning to have enough courage to call this project a qualified success. I must spend some time now cleaning up the wiring, getting the console put back in and installing the passenger's seat. I think I will put shielded over the control wires somehow.
