Drove the car for the first time since winter today. No turn signals on either side.

Headlight and brake lights fully operational.

All fuses are okay.

Hazards fully operational. Interior indicators and all 6 bulbs operational with hazards.

I swapped turn signal flasher and hazard flasher and hazards work with both. So turn signal flasher seems okay.

Suggestions?

If turn signal switch is needed, does anyone have part number or source.

The turn signal cam is not the needed part. All that will do is solve a problem where the signals work, but they don't self-cancel after you complete your turn.

What's probably needed here is a complete turn signal switch assembly. Not available on RockAuto. Shop carefully; there's a lot of poor-quality junk on the market. I may have one of the '72 switches on my shelf; have to check. If you need one right this instant, go to Old Car Parts Northwest for it.

Be sure to check for wire/fuse faults, too.

Thanks for the quick replies. Dan, let me know if you have one. Thanks again,

A quick test which may or may not show anything:

With key in run, engine running or not, run signal lever up and down several times while gently tugging back in direction of steering wheel. This action closes the gap between contacts, and may or may not scrub off some crud from.

Than test for flash in both directions while gently tugging lever as above. If you get a flash than the switch is worn and not making all its contacts internally. Time for a new one.

Are both brake lights working? If not, do they work when tugging back on signal lever?

Tried the test which yielded no turn signals at all. Brake light work fine.

All fuses were pulled and continuity tester showed all good. Spend some time hunting for shorts and nothing yet. Going to pull the steering wheel and inspect switch tomorrow.

Is there a test to confirm it is the turn signal switch? Perhaps it will be obvious, but not sure what I'll do if it isn't obviously broken.

Well I don't need a turn signal switch. I traced the problem to a white wire that I had cut when changing my radio this winter. Not sure why a wire going into the stock AM radio harness powers the turn signal flasher, but it most certainly does! I did pull the steering wheel and remove the switch before I figured it out. Once I put a jumper wire between the cut wire and the flasher I confirmed my problem. I spliced the white and red wires together just like the stock wiring and now everything works.

I probably should have figured it out sooner, I looked at the wiring diagram for hours before it finally "clicked."

Don't feel bad over that stuff. We have all been round and round figuring out electrical problems that once solved suddenly became stupid simple... At least that's this man's life experience. LOL

I'll illustrate with last week's annual spring tune & service encounter with my zero turn mower. Changed oil and filter, air filter, checked valve lash, inflated tires, removed & sharpened its three blades, removed starter to service bendex drive.

Once all back together with fully charged battery installed no start, no click, no noth'in, this after I drove it into basement last fall for winter storage running and starting just fine. What the Bleep?

Long story short, I became very interment with its electrical harness that day. Every one of the million continuity tests showed all switches, relays, fuses, conductors, and other electrical gismos to be working as designed as well as a good ground path. Round & round I went, hanks of hair piling up under foot, disposition souring fast, and back signaling its was time to quit an hour ago.

After frigging with this issue all afternoon I discovered the harness' black grounding conductor which services all various devices that should be connected at negative cable servicing starter/engine to be loose just touching engine block out of sight behind black starter to be making enough connection to show continuity, but not to carry any juice.

That moment of enlightenment, that oh what a dope, numb-ass, idiot, so welcomed feeling, but so humbling struck up side the head.

I attached that stupid little black wire to ground cable running back to battery and all was well. I felt real stupid but pleased on the other hand not to have given in and dragged that infernal machine to the dealer forking over a Grant or more to him, or ordered unneeded parts on line.
