I'm in the process of trying to find a rebuildable engine for my D100. The scrap guy that comes to my shop said he has one in a D200 truck, he THINKS its a 68, now i need the large crank register to fit my tranny so if this motor has 5 freeze plugs is that a reliable way to quickly tell if it is a 68 up motor? if not how can i quickly tell?
Thanks
Kevin

Five freeze plugs is a good indicator, as is the block casting number. You want a block with casting number 2806830. This is the number for 68-up 225 blocks.

2806830 is the number for the '68 to mid-'76 block. Starting in mid-'76, with the advent of the cast crank, the block number changed. It changed again several times after that, too.

Look here for various casting numbers.
