hi sages - maybe this is another job for uncle d. most battery terminal posts and side terminals and their clamps or bolt ons, are made of lead. as all of us know these are famous for accumulating white corrosion and shorting or killing a battery. recently saw clamps on batteries in boats which appear to be made of brass. thinking of using these brass jobs the next time my cars need cable end replacement if they provide increased reliability and retard corrosion . what think you? thanks bob f

Everything has its ups and downs. Brass will eventually corrode.

Theseare my favorite terminals. Made of zinc. You can find them cheaper... I'll try to find my receipt, I think I was able to get them for $2 each shipped.

I use the brass ones, and put lugs on the ends of the cable and bolt them to the brass terminal (rather than clamping the wire in the terminal)

Those alfa ones look neat but that wire attachment manner isn't a good idea to use long term. Exposing the wire end is an invite for corrosion. Hopefully your at least using marine (tinned) wire.

You can easily get battery terminals with studs and rings for the $24. Throw in some heatshrink too.

The only question mark is the crimper. Hammer crimpers are cheap but thesehydraulic ones are quite affordable and work reasonably well. I love mine. It applies enough force to have the wire strands leave impressions on the inside of the terminal (yes I cut one open after crimping). It will elongate the terminal barrel too if you keep using successively smaller dies.

I use tinned wire, I haven't had any corrosion issues.
