Well, basically what's going on, is for the last 4,000 miles or so, my slant bocks like a chicken. Yeah best way to describe it.

If you are idling, no boost, no nothing, just idling, below 850RPM, the slant goes Bock bock bock bock bock bock bock bock bock bock ... then when you rev above about 1,000 you can't hear it anymore and everything just sounds normal. It is similar to the sound you hear on air compressor engines as they are spooling down kind of, but this one sounds like a literal chicken, so that's my best descriptor, and it's consistant with the revolution, not random.

Any thoughts?

Car drives normal otherwise, I just don't remember it making this sound so audibly.

Ohhhh...

I have an electric one, so the regular one is still attached to the block I assume it's pumping air from one side of it to the other doing nothing. I'll take it off and grab a block off plate and see what happens. I forgot that thing was there too...

Ha! I wanna put a mechanical fuel pump back on my motor with no lines going to it just to hear it sound like a chicken.

Auto parts stores have the block off plates in the universal chrome parts aisle. Same as a <insert c-word here>.

I was going to suggest removing the chicken from the engine compartment.

Wow Sandy, that's exactly what it was. I used a small piece of hose to connect the two ends of the fuel pump and the bocking stopped.

I got a video of the sound so everyone knows it sounded just like a chicken, and apparently Sandy knew exactly what that was. lol.

Also now that the hose is connected from one end to the other I am obviously making infinite amounts of pressure on the fuel pump. I should patent that.

It's still making the noise, you just can't hear it any more...it's going around and around inside that tubing...

Seriously if the fuel pump isn't being used you should take it off, no reason to have your cam running something for no reason. Also, if no fuel is running through it the diaphragm might rupture from oxidation or something.

Plus you don't need that old fuel pump taking up room on the "cramped" side of the slant six.

Yeah I have a block off plate that I bought a while back, I just need to find it. I'll probably have some extra time tomorrow to get it off and let whatever oil falls off the back of it fall off at the shop instead of the driveway. I know it's only two bolts but right now it looks like i may have to pull the alt and coil to snake it out. Maybe not. I'll give it a shot and move what I have to.
