So I'm gearing up for a full tear down on old Esmeralda; this car owes us nothing and has always been an amazing battle-wagon. Now it's time to give a little back. I painted this car probably 16 tears ago and basically had no idea what I was doing. Bodywork...what's that. This time around I hope to make things a bit straighter and go with a two tone paint scheme. Disc brakes and a sway bar will be going in and a new (to me) slant with fuel injection will also be added. Since this didn't seem like a big enough job, I am also playing with the idea of doing a two door hardtop conversion pending a deal on a parts car (I'm talking to you Sandy). Needless to say it should be a very busy winter in my shop and hope to be rolling by spring. I was thinking of doing a build thread so you folks can watch my progress. Would this be the correct section for that?

This Aussie Valiant wagon has been a big influence on our plan for the finished product (less the fat whites). I'm even hoping to find these Venetian blinds if I can locate a north American vendor. Also a pretty big fan of the "fuel guard" if that's what it would be called. Anyone ever come across anything like this?

Wow! Never seen interior louvers for an A body, much less an early A wagon! I bet those are either custom or an Australia/South Africa only piece. The fill guard would also be very nice to have.

Fill guard, is that what I'm calling it? The blinds are an Aussie aftermarket thing and I feel like they should bolt right into our wagons.

Fuel guard, fill guard, splash shield, whatever its name is, I like it. Maybe one of our Aussie or NZ board members could score you a set of those blinds?

Both of those are Australian items. The venetian blinds (and front exterior sunshade, and clear plastic side window weathershields, for that matter) can be bought here, though they appear to have left Chrysler off the list under "Auto shades" in their newly-redone website. The model equivalent is Chrysler Valiant AP5 ('63-'64), AP6 ('65), VC ('66).

The fuel filler splash guard or splash tray is harder to find; AFAIK they're not being reproduced and can only be found if you're lucky. They go for expensive money, too; see here.

Yup, AP5 is my equivalent. Yikes on the $$$ for those splash shields. I was redirected from an Aussie ebay vendor to an American site for the blinds. Here

Hmmmm. A guy might be able to fashion his own fuel splash shield from a small, shallow, stainless bowl from Walmart. If one could find one with a recessed bottom the right size to punch the screw pattern into, then trim away everything from the 7:00 to 4:00 position, leaving enough "below the horizon", it just might be do-able.

I thought about mounting the Charger style flip cap over the tail light (sort of), unfortunately I think that it would look too bulbous and out of place.
Those are pretty cool. I have a nice billet cap made by someone on the forum years ago but I still get fuel slosh down the quarter. I didn't see a price on those caps, what are they worth? I'd like to also see how yours turns out on your wagon if you get to it in the next while.
